The reaction indices of π-electronic structures of the diuretics, xanthine, thiazide and triazine derivatives were calculated. An attempt was made to explain the potency of the diuretic action in the light of quantum chemistry. The reaction indices of xanthine derivatives, the first frontier superdelocalizability at the substi tuent occupying the 7-position of the highest occupied orbital an...

FUROSEMIDE (4 chloro-N[2-furyl methyl] -5-sulfamyl-anthranilic acid) (fig. 1) is a new and potent diuretic compound which is effective when given either orally or parenterally. Structurally it has in common with substituted thiazides a sulfamyl-benzene grouping. Animal studies have revealed it to be a most effective diuretic in both rats and dogs, resulting in maximum diuretic effects of up to ...

By selectively regulating solute or fluid reabsorption, the kidneys play the major role in maintaining the volume and composition of extracellular fluid. Many diseases, including congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and Cushing’s syndrome (glucocorticoid excess), are associated with or cause significant alterations in extracellular fluid balance. Diuretics inhibit renal sodium transport...

ABSTRACT The present study was undertaken to investigate the diuretic activity of Rumex vesicariys.Linn and its formulation in experimental rats. The preliminary phytochemical investigation was carried out to identify the various chemical constituents present in the alcoholic extract. It was found that the Rumex vesicarius contain carbohydrate, glycosides, saponin, steroids, and flavonoids and ...

5-chloro-2: 4-disulphamyl toluene (Disamide) is a recently introduced oral diuretic. Experimentally in animals this substance possesses a powerful diuretic action closely resembling that of chlorothiazide.1 In addition, there is some similarity of action to acetazolamide as the drug appears to inhibit the action of carbonic anhydrase. Highly effective and relatively non-toxic oral diuretics are...

We attempted to determine whether a diuretic-induced increase in renin secretion results in angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction which counteracts the antihypertensive action of diuretics. The angiotensui antagonist saralasin was administered to nine normal renin and five low renin essential hypertensives prior to and during stimulation of the renin-angiotendn system by 6 weeks of chronic d...

A single oral dose of chlortenoxicam 4 mg, a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, significantly antagonized the diuretic and natriuretic actions of frusemide when compared with placebo in normal human volunteers. Indomethacin 50 mg significantly reduced the natriuretic, but not diuretic action of frusemide.
