The shaping of astrophysical outflows into bright, dense and collimated jets due to magnetic pressure is here investigated using laboratory experiments. We notably look at the impact on jet collimation a misalignment between outflow, as it stems from source, field. For small misalignments, nozzle forms redirects outflow in jet. growing this becomes increasingly asymmetric, disrupting formation....

A GC-MS method was successfully applied to measure simultaneously the concentrations of endocrine disrupting compounds (5 dialkyl phthalates, 9 phthalate monoesters, 3 alkylphenols and bisphenol A) in 136 male urine samples. In the present study the method was validated and concentrations of EDCs were determined. The results were compared with results from other studies. Correlations between en...

Judge Milton I. Shadur was a disrupter of frivolous defenses. In 2018, died at the age 93 after 37 years as judge United States District Court for Northern Illinois. Sua sponte, reviewed civil answers, and disrupted pleading Sponte Shadur—as some lawyers called him—rejected answers that departed from or ignored Rule 8 Federal Rules Civil Procedure. In 2001, issued an Appendix to order in St...

Choptuik has demonstrated that naked singularities can arise in gravitational collapse from smooth, asymptotically flat initial data, and that such data have codimension one in spherical symmetry. Here we show, for perfect fluid matter with equation of state p = ρ/3, by perturbing around spherical symmetry, that such data have in fact codimension one in the full phase space, at least in a neigh...

I propose to use as a window the dark core of an optical vortex to examine a weak background signal hidden in the glare of a bright coherent source. Applications such as the detection of an astronomical object, forward-scattered radiation, and incoherent light are described whereby signal enhancements of at least 7 orders of magnitude may be achieved.
