Due to the importance of super-hydrophobic silica aerogel powder as a material in the field of energy saving, its wettability in the presence of various surfactants was investigated. One anionic and two non-ionic surfactants with different molecular structures were used as wetting and dispersing agents. Wetting properties of the aerogel powders were investigated by the contact angle measure...

Palygorskite (Pal) is a natural clay mineral with fibrous morphology and high surface area. Depending on the geological origin, it presents impurities, such as quartz carbonates, which can harm some of its properties. Therefore, this work seeks to define viable methodology for purification Brazilian Pal. Two types mixing processes (sonication milling) two dispersing agents (sodium silicate sodi...

We found a diversity of Rickettsia spp. in seabird ticks from 6 tropical islands. The bacteria showed strong host specificity and sequence similarity with strains in other regions. Seabird ticks may be key reservoirs for pathogenic Rickettsia spp., and bird hosts may have a role in dispersing ticks and tick-associated infectious agents over large distances.

Dispersing and non-dispersing individuals often differ in phenotypic traits (e.g. physiology, behaviour), but to what extent these differences are fixed or driven by external conditions remains elusive. We experimentally tested whether differences in nest-defence behaviour between dispersing and non-dispersing individuals changed with local habitat quality in collared flycatchers, by providing ...

1.1 Dyeing auxiliaries Auxiliaries are compounds which are not an integral part of the dyeing process but by adding them to the dye bath the dyeing can be improved. The main functions of auxiliaries are to prepare or improve the substrate in readiness for colorants (by wetting, providing sorption sites, improving or resisting the migration of dyes), to stabilize the application media (by improv...
