Pitch discrimination interference (PDI) refers to an impairment in the ability to discriminate changes in the fundamental frequency (F0) of a target harmonic complex, caused by another harmonic complex (the interferer) presented simultaneously in a remote spectral region. So far, PDI has been demonstrated for target complexes filtered into a higher spectral region than the interferer and contai...

Salop’s “Circular City” model of spatial competition is generalized to higher dimensions, and to “transportation” costs which are a power of distance. Assuming free entry, mill pricing is compared to location-based price discrimination. For dimensions above one, there is some too little entry below some cutoff power, and too much entry above it. This cutoff cost-power rises with dimension, and ...

The paper presents results concerning the effect of spatial inhomogeneous operating temperature on the gas discrimination power of a gas-sensor microarray, with the latter based on a thin SnO2 film employed in the KAMINA electronic nose. Three different temperature distributions over the substrate are discussed: a nearly homogeneous one and two temperature gradients, equal to approx. 3.3 C/mm a...

Objective The present work studied molecular typing methods used for Mycobacterium tuberculosis characterization in order to learn about their advantages, disadvantages and discrimination power as regards the implementation of tuberculosis surveillance and control programs. Methods To analyze the discrimination power of each method we studied articles that included Hunter-Gaston discrimination ...

the ideological discourse analysis and critical studies in social and human sciences have been of much interest recently. critical discourse analysis (cda) aims at discovering the negative influences of language use on the production and reproduction of power and domination relationships in society. thus, social inequalities such as race, age, religious, gender and class discrimination have bee...

In this paper, we evaluate the discrimination power of structural superindices. Superindices for graphs represent measures composed of other structural indices. In particular, we compare the discrimination power of the superindices with those of individual graph descriptors. In addition, we perform a statistical analysis to generalize our findings to large graphs.

Recent studies have demonstrated that prestimulus alpha-band activity substantially influences perception of near-threshold stimuli. Here, we studied the influence of prestimulus alpha power fluctuations on temporal perceptual discrimination of suprathreshold tactile stimuli and subjects' confidence regarding their perceptual decisions. We investigated how prestimulus alpha-band power influence...

Nowadays, the available data become more and more voluminous and diverse by nature : vague data, missing data, numerical or symbolic data can be encountered. However, users are more interested in the knowledge which can be extracted from the data, than by the data themselves. Vis-à-vis the great quantity of available data, the effective processing of data is very cumbersome. In this thesis we a...
