Linear polarisation in gamma-ray burst prompt emission is an important diagnostic with the potential to significantly constrain models. The spectrometer aboard INTEGRAL, SPI, has the capability to detect the signature of polarised emission from a bright γ–ray source. GRB 041219a is the most intense burst localised by INTEGRAL with a fluence of 5.7 ×10−4 ergs cm−2 over the energy range 20 keV–8 ...

D 1 (x) and Tensor Charge of the Deuteron. Abstract The chiral-odd structure function h D 1 (x) and the tensor charge of the deuteron are studied within the Bethe-Salpeter formalism for the deuteron amplitude. Utilizing a simple model for the nucleon structure function, h N 1 , h D 1 (x) is calculated and the nuclear effects are analyzed.

Information obtained from nucleus as a bound system of nucleons and from nucleon-nucleon scattering experiments is a strong tool for studying various aspects of nuclear forces. Deuteron-deuteron scattering as a four-nucleon system can provide useful information. So, scattering experiment of a polarized beam of deuteron with kinetic energy of65 MeV/nucleon from a liquid-deuterium target was done...

The tensor polarization of the recoil deuteron in elastic electron-deuteron scattering has been measured at the Bates Linear Accelerator Center at three values of four-momentum transfer, Q = 3.78, 4.22, and 4.62 fm-', corresponding to incident electron energies of 653, 755, and 853 MeV. The scattered electrons and the recoil deuterons were detected in coincidence. The recoil deuterons were tran...

Coulomb effects in the neutron-deuteron and proton-deuteron polarization-y are studied at energies above the deuteron breakup threshold. Theoretical predictions for these ob-servables are evaluated in the framework of the Kohn Variational Principle using correlated basis functions to expand the three-nucleon scattering wave function. The two-nucleon Argonne v 18 and the three-nucleon Urbana IX ...

We propose two new sources of a substantial tensor polarization of sea partons in the deuteron: the diffractive nuclear shadowing which depends on the alignment of nucleons in the polarized deuteron and the nuclear excess of pions in the deuteron which is sensitive to the spin state of the deuteron. The corresponding tensor structure function b2(x,Q ) rises towards small x and we predict an abo...

Tensor polarization observables ( t(20), t(21), and t(22)) have been measured in elastic electron-deuteron scattering for six values of momentum transfer between 0.66 and 1.7 (GeV/c)(2). The experiment was performed at the Jefferson Laboratory in Hall C using the electron High Momentum Spectrometer, a specially designed deuteron magnetic channel and the recoil deuteron polarimeter POLDER. The n...

Theoretical models of low-energy (d, p) single-neutron transfer reactions are a crucial link between experimentation, nuclear structure, and nuclear astrophysical studies. Whereas reaction models that use local optical potentials are insensitive to short-range physics in the deuteron, we show that including the inherent nonlocality of the nucleon-target interactions and realistic deuteron wave ...

The justification for doing the work presented in this paper lies in the recent and disturbing rumours regarding the reflectivity of the current SCIAMACHY Level 1b product. The reflectivity was claimed to show an overall 20-percent loss in magnitude compared to GOME. We will show that the reported discrepancy in the reflectivity is indeed not a fictional one, but that it is certainly not caused...

Recent developments of the covariant Bethe–Salpeter (BS) approach with the use of the separable interaction for the deuteron are reviewed. It is shown that the BS formalism allows a covariant description of various electromagnetic reactions like the lepton-deuteron scattering, deuteron electro-disintegration, deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of leptons on light nuclei. The procedure of the const...
