In this article, we propose a depth map refinement method that increases the quality of immersive video. The proposal highly enhances inter-view consistency maps (estimated or acquired by any method), crucial for achieving required fidelity virtual view synthesis process. described method, only information from is used, as use texture can introduce errors in refinement, mostly due to color inco...

Important scene information may be relayed to a blind person via mobility aids that incorporate an image to sound mapping. However, these devices are frequently both tiring and stressful to use. A new display technique, which combines a stereo edge depth map with a cartoonlike scene representation is described. Experimental results are included that demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

In this paper we will present a novel approach of using surface patches for Image Based Rendering. Based on image sequences acquired with a freely moving portable multi-camera-rig we can extrapolate novel views of complex real scenes in realtime. The cameras are calibrated from the image sequence itself and dense depth maps are computed for each camera view using an improved multiview depth est...

Although the visual perception of 3D shape from 2D images is a basic capability of human beings, it remains challenging to computers. Hence, one goal of vision research is to computationally understand and model the latent 3D scene from the captured images, and provide human-like visual system for machines. In this paper, we present a method that is capable of building a realistic 3D model for ...

In the Kanizsa figure, an illusory central area and its contours are perceived. Replacing the pacman inducers with other shapes can significantly influence this effect. Psychophysical studies indicate that the determination of depth is a task that our visual system constantly conducts. We hypothesized that the illusion is due to the modification of the image according to the higher level depth ...

Obstacle detection and classification in a complex urban area are highly demanding, but desirable for pedestrian protection, stop & go, and enhanced parking aids. The most difficult task for the system is to segment objects from varied and complicated background. In this paper, a novel position-based object segmentationmethod has been proposed to solve this problem. According to the method prop...

In this paper, we propose systems which can render free viewpoint images by using depth image based rendering for live video communications. Experimental results show that an image and depth transmission system is more suitable than an all multi view transmission and an only free viewpoint image transmission system. Especially in the image and depth transmission system, transmitting two images ...

We propose a real-time fingertip detection algorithm based on depth information. It can robustly detect single fingertip regardless of the position and direction of the hand. With the depth information of front view, depth map of top view and side view is generated. Due to the difference between finger thickness and fist thickness, we use thickness histogram to segment the finger from the fist....
