It is not difficult to see that every group homomorphism from Z to R extends to a homomorphism from R to R. We discuss other examples of discrete subgroups Γ of connected Lie groups G, such that the homomorphisms defined on Γ can (“virtually”) be extended to homomorphisms defined on all of G. For the case where G is solvable, we give a simple proof that Γ has this property if it is Zariski dens...

Recently, the theory of dense graph limits has received attention from multiple disciplines including graph theory, computer science, statistical physics, probability, statistics, and group theory. In this paper we initiate the study of the general structure of differentiable graphon parameters F . We derive consistency conditions among the higher Gâteaux derivatives of F when restricted to the...

The interactions between topological covering spaces, homotopy and group structures in a fibered space exhibit an array of interesting properties. This paper proposes the formulation finite components compact Lindelof variety (C, R) spaces. spaces form Noetherian structure under injective embeddings. locally path-connected establish set groups, maintaining homomorphism. homeomorphic embedding b...

Let A be a Banach algebra. We call a pair (G,A) a Gelfand theory for A if the following axioms are satisfied: (G 1) A is a C∗-algebra, and G : A → A is a homomorphism; (G 2) the assignment L 7→ G−1(L) is a bijection between the sets of maximal modular left ideals of A and A, respectively; (G 3) for each maximal modular left ideal L of A, the linear map GL : A/G−1(L) → A/L induced by G has dense...

For each locally compact non-compact c-compact Abelian group G whose dual is an I-group and each compact Abelian group ,?J such that there is a one-to-one continous homomorphism from G onto a dense subgroup of Z, we show the existence of cocycles on Z whose associated unitary representations of G have purely singular continuous spectrum, as well as the existence of cocycles on Z whose associate...

Let $nin mathbb{N}$. An additive map $h:Ato B$ between algebras $A$ and $B$ is called $n$-Jordan homomorphism if $h(a^n)=(h(a))^n$ for all $ain A$. We show that every $n$-Jordan homomorphism between commutative Banach algebras is a $n$-ring homomorphism when $n < 8$. For these cases, every involutive $n$-Jordan homomorphism between commutative C-algebras is norm continuous.

The canonical trace on the reduced C∗-algebra of a discrete group gives rise to a homomorphism from the K-theory of this C∗-algebra to the real numbers. This paper studies the range of this homomorphism. For torsion free groups, the Baum-Connes conjecture together with Atiyah’s L-index theorem implies that the range consists of the integers. We give a direct and elementary proof that if G acts ...

let $mathcal {a} $ and $mathcal {b} $ be c$^*$-algebras. assume that $mathcal {a}$ is of real rank zero and unital with unit $i$ and $k>0$ is a real number. it is shown that if $phi:mathcal{a} tomathcal{b}$ is an additive map preserving $|cdot|^k$ for all normal elements; that is, $phi(|a|^k)=|phi(a)|^k $ for all normal elements $ainmathcal a$, $phi(i)$ is a projection, and there exists a posit...

The purposes of this note are to complement the results of [4] by citing examples of spectral operators (in the sense of that paper) on non-normable locally convex spaces and to announce a result on the structure of spectral operators which indicates that these examples exhibit rather typical behavior for spectral operators on a large class of locally convex spaces of interest to analysts. We r...
