Hollow polyhedra and cubes of nanostructured Cu(2)O particles have been synthesized by reduction of CuSO(4) with ascorbate acid in the solution phase. The nanostructures were obtained when the cetyltrimethylammonium (CTAB) concentration ranged from 0 to 0.03 M in the presence of NaOH. Structural characterizations, by means of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for measuring Cu valence state...

Nanocomposites based on TiO2-supported copper nanoparticles were prepared by a hydrothermal method where copper nanoparticles with or without the passivation of 1-decyne were chemically grown onto TiO2 nanocolloid surfaces (and hence denoted as CuHC10/TiO2 and Cu/TiO2, respectively). Transmission electron microscopy measurements showed that the size of the hybrid nanoparticles was 5-15 nm in di...

Atomic-level understanding of the structural transformations of multimetallic nanoparticles triggered by external stimuli is of vital importance to the enhancement of our capabilities to fine-tailor the key structural parameters and thereby to precisely tune the properties of the nanoparticles. Here, we show that, upon thermal annealing in a reducing atmosphere, Au@Cu2O core-shell nanoparticles...

Copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) supported on diamond nanoparticles (D NPs) previously purified by Fenton treatment (Cu/D) followed by annealing with hydrogen (Cu/DH) are highly efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogenation of styrene to ethylbenzene with the minimum productivity value of 30,617 cycles.

Tribological behavior of Cu-MoS2 and Ag-MoS2 nanocomposite lubricant was studied. Cu nanoparticles produced by electrical explosion of copper wires and Ag nanoparticles prepared by electrospark erosion were employed as metal cladding modifiers of MoS2 nanolamellar particles. The tribological tests showed Cu-MoS2 and Ag-MoS2 nanocomposite lubricants changed the friction coefficient of the initia...

Herein, we report a novel polymerized-complex method for the preparation of Ni-Pd, Ni-Pt, and Cu-Pt alloys and Pt, Pd, Ag, Ni, and Cu nanoparticles. The grain sizes and crystalline phases of these nanoparticles can be controlled. These nanoparticles are obtained via the formation of a polymerized complex and release of reducing gases during N2-protected calcination.

Fluorogenic based nitrobenzofuran-functionalized Ni@SiO(2) core/shell magnetic nanoparticles have been prepared by sol-gel grafting reaction. Their ability to detect and remove metal ions was evaluated by fluorophotometry. The nanoparticles exhibited a high affinity and selectivity for Cu(2+) over competing metal ions. Furthermore, the nanoparticles efficiently removed Cu(2+) in drinking water ...

Using glycolipid nanotubes as templates, assembled copper nanoparticles were prepared from copper-chelating amphiphiles by a simple annealing process. The morphology and structure of these nanoparticles were investigated using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results showed that the nanoparticles are crystalline and mainly composed of face-cent...

Finely dispersed sandwich composite nanoparticles of Cu–Ni–Cu were prepared by a novel method combining template synthesis and an ultrasonic treatment method. The composite nanoparticles have uniform cylinder shape with tunable diameter and length. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron diffraction (ED) were employed to characterize the nanoparticles. This method can be used to fab...
