background: there are two subclasses of human iga (iga1 and iga2) that differ in antigenic properties and in chemical composition. the constant domains of α1 and α2 heavy chains have >95% sequence homology though major structural differences exist in the hinge region. quantitation of iga subclass levels depends on the availability of monoclonal antibodies (mabs) specific for conserved conformat...

UNLABELLED Assessment of potential allergenicity and patterns of cross-reactivity is necessary whenever novel proteins are introduced into human food chain. Current bioinformatic methods in allergology focus mainly on the prediction of allergenic proteins, with no information on cross-reactivity patterns among known allergens. In this study, we present AllerTool, a web server with essential too...

The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to examine cross-reactivity of Neospora caninum with Toxoplasma gondii and Hammondia heydorni. Anti-T. gondii mouse and cat sera cross-reacted with N. caninum soluble antigen (NLA), but not with the recombinant surface antigen (NcSRS2). Anti-H. heydorni dog sera showed no cross-reactivity with either the NLA antigen or the NcSRS2. Lack of c...

In relation to the prediction of allergenicity three aspects have to be discussed: IgE immunogenicity, IgE cross-reactivity, and T-cell cross-reactivity. IgE immunogenicity depends largely on factors other than the protein itself: the context and dose and "history" of the protein by the time it reaches the immune system. It is, therefore, not fully predictable from structural information. In co...

The indirect hemagglutination assay routinely used to detect antibodies to Burkholderia pseudomallei was modified to detect cross-reactivity of antibodies to B. pseudomallei, B. mallei, and B. thailandensis antigens. We demonstrate a lack of cross-reactivity between B. pseudomallei and B. thailandensis but marked cross-reactivity between B. pseudomallei and B. mallei.

We measured the cross reactivity of two medications--digitoxin and spironolactone--in two digoxin radioimmunoassay (liquid and solid-phase) kit procedures. Both tests showed similar average percentages of cross reactivity with digitoxin (7.2 and 8.9% for intravenous, and 11.9 and 10.9% for oral administration), but no cross reactivity with spironolactone or its metabolites after equal intraveno...

A genotyping study of 285 Hybrid Capture 2 low-risk probe cocktail-positive specimens showed cross-reactivity with several untargeted human papillomavirus genotypes. Cross-reactivity was often clinically beneficial due to the detection of untargeted low-risk genotypes. A total of 8.4% of positive results, usually weak, were due to cross-reactivity with high-risk genotypes. Establishment of a gr...
