Abstract Conodonts were a highly diverse and abundant vertebrate group whose fossils are found in marine Paleozoic Triassic strata around the world. They inhabited environments ranging from lagoons to open oceans represented by wide variety of dental morphologies. may have filled many different ecological niches represent significant proportion nekton before Devonian. Despite this, very little ...

Conodonts comprising six species have been recovered from the Aplington Formation from five localities in northccntral Iowa. Although the Aplington conodont fauna is meager -it suggests a correlation with the Maple Mill Shale of southeastern Iowa. The Aplington Formation is vegarded as representing the youngest Devonian formation exposed in northcentral Iowa.

Knowledge of the conodont skeleton, in terms of the morphology of the elements and the positions they occupy, provides the foundation for understanding of homology, taxonomy and evolutionary relationships in conodonts. This knowledge also underpins analyses of conodont functional morphology and feeding. Direct evidence of skeletal anatomy and apparatus architecture comes from natural assemblage...

Conodonts are the first vertebrates to bear a mineralized skeleton, restricted to an array of tooth-like feeding elements. The functional implications for the development of tooth-like elements differentiated into two tissues is tested using 2D finite element modeling, mapping the patterns of stress and strain that elements with differing material properties exhibited during function. Addition ...

Abstract Microfossils are important components of sedimentary rocks used for palaeontological, biostratigraphic, palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic investigations. They usually extracted from using an acid solution, which might vary depending on the embedding rock lithology. Here we propose a new method common NaOH (sodium hydroxide; soda) to digest cherts (micro‐ cryptocrystalline quartz) ...
