During their larval development, endoparasitoids are known to dispose of host resources in several different ways. Some parasitoid wasps consume most or all tissues of the host, whereas others consume a small fraction of host resources and either ensure that the hostmoves away from the pupation site or allow the host to remain close to the parasitoid cocoon(s). Using a single host species, Myth...

This study used the larval tissues and colored cocoons of silkworms, Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae), that were fed leaves of cultivated mulberry, Husang 32, as experimental material. The pigment composition and content in colored cocoons and tissues of the 5th instar larvae and the mulberry leaves were rapidly detected using organic solvent extraction and reverse phase high-performanc...

The larvae of the giant silk moth (Hyalophora cecropia) spin strikingly dimorphic, multilayered cocoons that are either large and fluffy (baggy) or significantly smaller and tightly woven (compact). Although these cocoon-morphs share the same function (i.e., housing for pupal to adult development during overwintering), previous work has been unable to determine why cocoon dimorphism exists. We ...

The escape rate of cosmic ray (CR) particles from radio galaxy cocoons is a problem of high astrophysical relevance: e.g. if CR electrons are stored for long times in the dilute relativistic medium filling the radio cocoons (radio plasma in the following) they are protected against Coulomb losses and thus able to produce significant non-thermal Comptonisation signature on the CMB. On the other ...

Field experiments and surveyswere conducted in 2003 and2004 to evaluate theefÞcacy of using the parasitoidMicroplitis mediator (Haliday) to control populations of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) in cotton Þelds in Northwestern ChinaÕs Xinjiang Province. The population levels of the second generation of H. armigera in southern Xinjiang in 2003 and 2004 were 20Ð60% above the economic threshold of t...

Wolf spider females are characterised by carrying cocoons attached to their spinnerets. Emerged spiderlings are carried on the females’ opisthosomas, with the exception of three Japanese lycosid species who carry spiderlings on empty cocoons. Here, the same behaviour is recorded in a European spider: the drumming wolf spider Hygrolycosa rubrofasciata. Spiderlings of this species do not try to c...

This article proposes the influence of cocoon drying technology on properties shell and pupa silkworm. We also analyzed change in initial weight cocoons treated at different temperatures, microscopic view shells. Cocoons grown times year were taken as object study. As a result treatment with an infrared ray, hot air chemical methods, yield, color solubility compared analyzed.
