Between September 1984 and April 1987 a total of 150 patients underwent Nd-YAG laser iridotomy procedures at the Bristol Eye Hospital. Forty of these patients (27%) were treated for acute angle closure glaucoma (AACG), and three of them (7%) suffered recurrent AACG. Sixteen patients who had been treated for AACG have been challenged by a pharmacological provocative test introduced by Mapstone, ...

A 69-year-old woman developed acute angle-closure glaucoma 2 weeks after successful transvenous coil embolization of a traumatic carotid-cavernous sinus fistula. The angle-closure glaucoma was precipitated by oculomotor palsy caused by transvenous coil packing of the cavernous sinus. Emergency iridotomy resulted in normalization of the intraocular pressure and restoration of vision. Acute angle...

It has long been recognized that heredity plays a part in the aetiology of glaucoma. Fran §ois and Heintz-de Bree (I966) postulated a dominant heredity in open-angle glaucoma. They noted a 98 per cent. penetrance for a dominant gene in some families, but admitted that in other families the penetrance for a dominant gene was very low. Armaly (i 967a), on the other hand, suggested a polygenic inh...

A mild anterior chamber aqueous flare and cellular response are common findings in acute angle-closure glaucoma. Chandler and Grant (I965) have noted that "discovery of a great many cells in the aqueous is perfectly consistent with the diagnosis of acute angle-closure glaucoma". We have recently seen two patients who had developed hypopyon during the course of their attacks of acute angle-closu...

A 62-year-old woman presented with acute angle closure glaucoma. After a poor response to conventional treatment the presenting signs were re-evaluated and a diagnosis of pseudotumour of the orbit was made. Treatment with oral steroids resolved both the glaucoma and the orbital pseudotumour. The presumed pathogenesis and literature are reviewed.
