A yellow-pigmented bacterial strain, R4-1A(T), isolated from the midgut of the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus (a vector of lymphatic filariasis), was studied using a polyphasic approach. Cells of the isolate were rod-shaped and stained Gram-negative. A comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of this organism with sequences of type strains of the most closely related species clearly showed an ...

Background: Bacterial Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) are environmental friendly and versatile polymeric materials that are used in a wide range of industries such as: food, textile, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. To make the production process of the EPS cost-effective, improvements in the production yield is required which could be implemented through application of processes such a...

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE Reports detailing bacteremia caused by Chryseobacterium indologenes remain limited, with most cases reported in Taiwan. The clinical significance of C. indologenes has not been fully established. This retrospective study investigated the clinical features and antimicrobial susceptibility of C. indologenes bacteremia. METHODS Patients with C. indologenes bacteremia were iden...

In vitro activities of cefepime and cefpirome against 96 isolates of Chryseobacterium indologenes and 21 of C. meningosepticum were determined by the agar dilution method. Overall, cefepime was more active than cefpirome against C. indologenes (MIC at which 50% of the isolates were inhibited [MIC50] and MIC90, 4 and 16 microg/ml, respectively, for cefepime and 8 and 128 microg/ml, respectively,...

Two yellow-pigmented bacterial strains (100(T) and C26(T)), showing 98.4 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to each other and isolated from a chicken in Germany and as a contaminant from an agar plate of a rhizosphere sample in Alabama, were studied by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of both isolates were rod-shaped and stained Gram-negative. A comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequ...

BACKGROUND Chryseobacterium indologenes is an uncommon organism that has been documented to cause a variety of invasive infections mostly in hospitalized patients with severe underlying diseases. CASE PRESENTATION A three-month-old female infant born at term by caesarean section with meningomyelocele and congenital diaphragmatic hernia had two surgeries for the repair of meningomyelocele and ...

A new natural IND-type metallo-beta-lactamase variant, IND-5, was identified in a clinical isolate of Chryseobacterium indologenes. IND-5 shared 92.8% and 92.4% amino acid homology with IND-1 and IND-3, respectively. Purified enzyme (pI = 8.8, M(r) = 25,000) was able to hydrolyze penicillins, some narrow- and expanded-spectrum cephalosporins, and carbapenems but not monobactams.

Chryseobacterium indologenes is a widespread bacteria in the environment, especially hospitals, and a rarely reported human pathogen. The lowest frequency has been reported in children under 5 years of age. Clinical manifestations of C. indologenes include nosocomial pneumoniae, biliary tract infection, peritonitis, surgical wound infection, intravascular catheter-related bacteremia, cellulitis...
