To make use of nano-sized particles for biomedical applications such nanomedicines for different diseases, it is important to study how nanoparticles behave when they interact with microorganisms. In the present study, we investigated the antibacterial performance of chromium oxide nanoparticles (Cr3O4 NPs) against two gram negative bacterial strains, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginos...

Chromium in fumes generated in work environments including sites of welding work appears in various and complex states. Determination of chromium speciation in samples is useful for estimating the toxicity of such fumes. In the present study, determination of chromium speciation in chromium fumes prepared using a plasma metal sprayer, which are regarded as a model of actual fumes, was carried o...

In the present study, the influence of chromium(III) complexes (acetate, chloride, glycinate, histidinate, lactate and propionate) on insulin binding and signal transduction [phosphorylation of tyrosine and serine in the insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1] was investigated in vitro using three experimental models: isolated rat liver membranes and cultured mouse C2C12 myoblasts or 3T3-L1 preadip...

The title compound, {(C(6)H(11)N(2))[CrCl(3)]}(n), was generated via mixing of the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride with CrCl(2) in ethanol. Crystals were obtained by a diffusion method. In the crystal structure, the anion forms one-dimensional chains of chloride-bridged Jahn-Teller distorted chromium(II) centers extending along the [100] direction. The imidazolium cations are...

Four chromium based oxo-trinuclear carboxylate complexes were prepared by reacting chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate with acetic acid and substituted carboxylic acids. They were characterized using infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Chromium content of the complexes was determined by titrimetry method. The chromium(III) monochloroacetate complex, [Cr3O(ClCH2COO)6.3H2O]NO3.3H2O in combination with d...

In the title complex, [CrCl(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]Cl, the Cr(III) ion is situated on a twofold rotation axis and displays a slightly distorted octa-hedral CrCl(2)N(4) coordination geometry. The Cr environment is composed of a cis arrangement of two 1,10-phenanthroline and two chloride ligands. The chloride counter-anion exhibits half-occupation and is equally disordered over two positions.

Chromium (VI), also known as hexavalent chromium, is the second most stable oxidation state of chromium. Rarely occurring naturally, most chromium (VI) compounds are manufactured (products or by-products). Chromium (VI) can be reduced to the more stable chromium (III) in the presence of reducing agents (e.g. iron) or oxidizable organic matter (OSHA, 2006). Selected chemical and physical propert...

To reveal the effects of cultural conditions on the cytotoxicity of hexavalent chromium, the uptake of sodium chromate (Na2CrO4) by KB cells and the colony-forming efficiency of the cells were examined under various cultural conditions. The results were summarized as follows: 1) The chromium uptake by the cells after a certain period of incubation with hexavalent chromium was inhibited with the...

The chromium (III) metformin hydrochloride complex as a diabetic drug model was synthesised by the chemical reaction between chromium (III) chloride hexahydrateand metforminHCl (Mfn.HCl) in methanol solvent. The [Cr(Mfn-HCl)2(Cl)2].Cl.6H2O complex was characterized using microanalytical measurements, molar conductance, spectroscopic (infrared, and UV-vis.), effective magnetic moment, and therma...
