Serum samples were randomly collected from 172 free-ranging yak (Poephagus grunniens, presently Bos grunniens) from six different yak tracts of Arunachal Pradesh, India, and subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to detect the presence of specific antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus. The overall prevalence of this disease in yak was 35%. The prevalence of Cp. abortus-specific antib...
Chlamydophila abortus is a common cause of ruminant abortion. Here we report the genome sequence of strain LLG, which differs genotypically and phenotypically from the wild-type strain S26/3. Genome sequencing revealed differences between LLG and S26/3 to occur in pseudogene content, in transmembrane head/inc family proteins, and in biotin biosynthesis genes.
We tested 731 sera from apparently healthy light horses against Chlamydophila pneumoniae, by a microimmuno-fluorescence (MIF) test. To verify cross-reactions with other species of chlamvdiae, all sera with an antibody titre > or = 32 to C. pneumoniae were tested against both C. psittaci and C. abortus. Antibodies to C. pneumoniae were detected in 194 out of 731 (26.5%) samples tested, with anti...
C. trachomatis and C. abortus are related Gram-negative intracellular bacteria that cause reproductive failure due to infertility (C. trachomatis) or abortion (C. abortus). These organisms target epithelial cells in the reproductive tract and/or placenta, but the innate immune mechanisms that lead to protection or pathology and disease are poorly understood. SLPI is an innate immune molecule wh...
A total of 359 sheep samples from 15 flocks were analyzed for the presence of antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus using a commercial Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Antibodies were detected in 19 (5.29%) sheep from 12 (80%) flocks. Seropositive animals were found in all analyzed regions (Central, Chorotega, Atlantic Huetar, North Huetar and Central Pacific) determining prevalenc...
Chlamydiae are important pathogens of a range of birds and animals including sheep, cattle, pigs, cats, goats, koalas, other Australian marsupials, amphibians and reptiles. Recent changes to chlamydial taxonomy has seen the proposal of two genera, Chlamydia/Chlamydophila with nine species – C trachomatis, C muridarum, C suis, C psittaci, C pecorum, C abortus, C caveae, C felis and C pneumoniae ...
Recombinant major outer membrane proteins (rMOMP) of Chlamydophila (Ch.) abortus, Ch. pecorum, and Chlamydia (C.) suis were used as antigens to distinguish chlamydial species-specific antibodies in (i) immune sera from six rabbits and three pigs raised against native purified elementary bodies, (ii) serum samples from 25 sows vaccinated with Ch. abortus, and (iii) 40 serum samples from four hei...
