Chirality transfer is an interesting phenomenon in Nature, which represents an important step to understand the evolution of chiral bias and the amplification of the chirality. In this paper, we report the chirality transfer via the entanglement of the alkyl chains between chiral gelator molecules and achiral amphiphilic Schiff base. We have found that although an achiral Schiff base amphiphile...

Measurements of the chirality (2 pi/pitch) in the chiral nematic phase and of a structural constant proportional to the chirality in the isotropic liquid for a system in which a helix inversion line crosses the chiral nematic to isotropic phase transition line are reported. While the chirality shows a strong temperature dependence in the chiral nematic phase, it loses all temperature dependence...

Enantiomeric M4L4 helical cages have been prepared whose supramolecular chirality is induced by the chemical chirality of the self-sorting amino acid-derived ligands that are used. Using scrambled diastereomeric ligands or achiral glycine-derived ligands yields analogous complexes yet 'turns off' the supramolecular chirality by producing centrosymmetric cages.

Chirality arising from isotope substitution, especially with atoms heavier than the hydrogen isotopes, is usually not considered a source of chirality in a chemical reaction. An N2 ,N2 ,N3 ,N3 -tetramethyl-2,3-butanediamine containing nitrogen (14 N/15 N) isotope chirality was synthesized and it was revealed that this isotopically chiral diamine compound acts as a chiral initiator for asymmetri...

We study the electronic mechanisms underlying the induction and propagation of chirality in achiral molecules deposited on surfaces. Combined scanning tunneling microscopy and ab initio electronic structure calculations of Cu-phthalocyanines adsorbed on Ag(100) reveal the formation of chiral molecular orbitals in structurally undistorted molecules. This effect shows that chirality can be manife...

Steroidal bile acids and their derivatives exhibit characteristic inclusion behaviors in the crystalline state. Their crystals present varied assemblies due to asymmetric molecular structures, which relate to supramolecular properties through cooperative weak interactions. An overview indicates that the steroidal assemblies lie in an intermediate position among various molecules and have hierar...

We present a microscopic analysis of the instability of the nematic phase to chirality when molecular chirality is introduced perturbatively. We show that for central-force interactions the previously neglected short–range biaxial correlations play a crucial role in determining the cholesteric pitch. We propose a pseudoscalar strength which quantifies the chirality of a molecule.

In wavelength-scale cavities with chiral-symmetric geometry, wave optical effects can introduce local chirality, that is, a spatial separation of the clockwise and counterclockwise propagating resonant modes. We show that this local chirality results in unidirectional lasing emission in the far field. In the presence of a waveguide, the local chirality also allows for directional evanescent cou...

In the present study, the effects of arrangement and distribution of multifarious types of defects on fundamental frequency of carbon nanotubes are investigated with respect to different chirality and boundary conditions. Interatomic interactions between each pair of carbon atoms are modeled using two types of non–linear spring–like elements. To obtain more information about the influences of d...

The examination of variation of elastic modules in single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is the aim of this paper. Full nonlinear spring-like elements are employed to simulate specific atomic structures in the commercial code ABAQUS. Carbon atoms are attached to each node as a mass point using atomic mass of carbon atoms. The influence of dimensions such as variation of length, diameter, aspect...
