This document describes the Cherenkov detector that is to be constructed for the Hall A neutron d2 experiment (E06-014). The inclusive nature of that experiment makes the addition of the Cerenkov counter for pion and proton rejection critical for the low energy bins. Monte Carlo and analysis of G E suggest particle rates of (assuming a 500MeV ee threshold on the the BigBite shower detector): • ...
We describe a new aerogel threshold Cherenkov detector installed in the HMS spectrometer in Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The Hall C experimental program in 2003 required an improved particle identification system for better identification of π/K/p, which was achieved by installing an additional threshold Cherenkov counter. Two types of aerogel with n = 1.03 and n = 1.015 allow one to reach ∼ 10 pro...
Due to detector developments in the last decade, the time-of-flight (TOF) method is now commonly used to improve the quality of positron emission tomography (PET) images. Clinical TOF-PET systems based on L(Y)SO:Ce crystals and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) with coincidence resolving times (CRT) between 325 ps and 400 ps FWHM have recently been developed. Before the introduction of L(Y)SO:Ce...
the dependence of the lateral distribution of cherenkov light in simulated extensive air showers to the energy and the mass of the primary cosmic rays has been studied. it has been shown that a previous claim about mass independent proportionality of shower energy to the total cherenkov photon number is not valid in energies below eeas ~ 1014 ev. we have found that the core distance of the so c...
simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100gev- 25tev has been carried out. for a big ideal cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of cherenkov photon density have been studied. results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real tunka- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...
At the Belle II experiment a Time-of-Propagation (TOP) counter is used for particle identification in barrel region. This novel type of device combines Cherenkov ring imaging technique with time-of-flight and therefore it relies on precise knowledge time collision each triggered event. We discuss performance present maximum likelihood based method determination event from measured data.
