A 29-year-old man with a history of resected bulbar hemangioblastoma was admitted to hospital with nighttime breathing disturbance, but with apparently normal breathing while awake. After diagnostic work-up, including polysomnographic testing, he was diagnosed as having central alveolar hypoventilation syndrome due to surgical resection for bulbar hemangioblastoma. Non-invasive positive pressur...

This report describes a 6 year old girl with late onset central hypoventilation syndrome due to a heterozygous polyalanine repeat expansion mutation in the PHOX2B gene. This report aims to increase the awareness of this condition among physicians to allow earlier clinical and genetic diagnosis and management of cases of unexplained hypoventilation.

Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is the failure of the autonomic system to control adequate ventilation while asleep with preserved ventilatory response while awake. We report a case of a patient with CCHS who presented with intrathoracic and extrathoracic airway obstruction after tracheostomy tube decannulation and phrenic nerve pacer placement. Nocturnal polysomnography (NPS...

Later-onset congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (LO-CCHS) does not present only breathing problems but can be present as episodic multiple organs involvement. Our unique case demonstrated LO-CCHS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of mitochondrial diseases and having nontypical polysomnography result.

Central hypoventilation syndrome (CHS) is a rare condition characterized by hypoventilation during sleep, reduced ventilatory responsiveness to CO(2) and O(2), impaired perception of air hunger, and autonomic abnormalities. Neural impairments accompany the condition, including structural injury, impaired cerebral autoregulation, and dysfunctional autonomic control. The hypoventilation may induc...
