A 51-year-old man developed anorexia, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. He had orthostatic hypotension, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, and hypocortisolemia, and the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency was made. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed asymmetrically enlarged adrenal glands. Biopsy of a hypoechoic, enlarged, inguinal lymph node showed caseating granulomas. Lumbar MRI show...
We present the case of a 73-year old patient suffering from chronic flexor tendon synovitis of the wrist with carpal tunnel syndrome. He underwent synovectomy and median nerve release. Primary bacteriology was negative. Histology of the excised synovia revelead non-caseating granuloma as typical for sarcoidosis. Further screening for sarcoidosis was negative. Culture of a sample harvested from ...
background and objective: tuberculosis is still a major health problem, involving about 1/3 of the world´s population. diagnosis is difficult when we only use ziehl-neelson staining. many cases may be missed. a more rapid and sensitive diagnostic method is necessary. pcr may be helpful. the aim of this study was to compare pcr, zieh-neelsen staining and histopathologic findings in diagnosis of ...
The Tubulointerstitial Nephritis and Uveitis syndrome is a very rare condition, probably under-diagnosed in clinical practice. It is characterized by the combination of an interstitial nephritis and uveitis, and is an exclusion diagnosis. Tissue non caseating granuloma can be rarely present, with only 6 cases reported on bone marrow. We present a case of a 55 year old female with a 3-month hist...
A case is described of primary biliary cirrhosis in a 59 year old woman who initially presented with a rash over her lower legs 18 months before diagnosis. Skin biopsy examination showed non-caseating granulomas of the sarcoid type. It is believed that this is the first reported case of primary biliary cirrhosis presenting with a granulomatous rash.
A 13-year-old boy with severe, active granulomatous ileocolitis presented with bilateral conjunctival nodules and infiltrates, iritis, and uniocular corneal infiltrates. Gastrointestinal biopsy revealed deep focal ulcers of the bowel wall with adjacent granulomas. Conjunctival biopsy disclosed non-caseating granulomatous inflammation.
INTRODUCTION Sarcoidosis is a multi-systemic disorder of unknown origin and most commonly affects the lungs. Diagnosis relies on the presence of non-caseating granulomas on histologic specimens. In high-resolution computed tomography, the most characteristic findings are peribronchovascular thickening, perilymphatic nodular distribution, and bilateral hilar adenopathy. Confluent nodular opaciti...
A report of a 63 year old woman with giant osteolytic skull lesions simulating metastatic disease, and generalized cutaneous lesions is presented. Biopsy of a skin lesion revealed non-caseating granulomas compatible with sarcoidosis. The literature dealing with calvarial sarcoidosis is reviewed.
Although chronic granulomatous inflammation (CGI) with concomitant caseous necrosis (CN) is a characteristic histological feature of tuberculosis (TB), few studies have investigated its frequency or various pathologic findings. The medical records of 227 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) -negative, culture-positive TB patients who underwent biopsy were studied. After the frequency of character...
