This paper investigates the energy absorption response of winding kenaf fiber composite tubes when subjected to an axial quasi-static crushing test. The square composites were prepared firstly by submerging the kenaf yarn into resin bath before it is warped around the mould for different number of layers and fiber orientations. The parameters measured were peak load, mean load and specific ener...
In this paper, considering symmetric collapse mode for hybrid tubes, and using Tsai-Hill fracture criterion to take into account the off-axis strength of an orthotropic lamina, an analytical model is extended and an expression is derived for mean crushing load and fold lengths of circular hybrid tubes. In this model, the influences of the geometrical dimensions including diameter, thickness of ...
The process of freezing of water and blockage of pipes are summarized. Current research on freezing and its applications are briefly reviewed. Design concepts are introduced for doing work by utilizing pressures caused by ice blockage. Several conceptual designs are presented for experimental setups for the isostatic pressurization of thin walled tubes. Potential practical uses of pressures gen...
Using facile diazonium chemistry, sulfonate groups have been covalently attached to single wall carbon nanotubes. The resulting sulfonated tubes form a stable aqueous dispersion in the presence of pyrrole monomer. Subsequent electropolymerisation results in a conductive, electroactive polypyrrole doped with sulfonated tubes being formed at unusually low potentials. The potential of this materia...
Quasi-static tests are performed in order to determine the crash behavior of composite tubes. The specimens are made from woven fiber carbon/epoxy. The crash experiments show that the tubes crushed in a progressive manner from one end to the other of the tubes while delamination was taking place between the layers. In the simulation works described in this paper the ANSYS explicit finite elemen...
The article presents the results of dynamic crushing sandwich tubes that had skins made carbon or glass fibers – with epoxy resin and an I214 poplar ply core. By increasing number plies from two to six, absorbed energy is doubled, showing significant contribution wood. Specific Energy Absorption sandwiches fiber oscillated between 49.4 J/g 60 while varied 35.4 43.3 J/g.
