isotope data from bulk carbonates, micrite, marine calcite cements, non-skeletal grains and brachiopods indicate deposition of a wide spectrum of warm to cold water carbonates during the ordovician and the jurassic. this isotopic interpretation is supported by warm to cold climatic models proposed for the ordovician and the jurassic. these carbonates formed during the greenhouse mode (condition...

UNLABELLED Marine methane seeps are globally distributed geologic features in which reduced fluids, including methane, are advected upward from the subsurface. As a result of alkalinity generation during sulfate-coupled methane oxidation, authigenic carbonates form slabs, nodules, and extensive pavements. These carbonates shape the landscape within methane seeps, persist long after methane flux...

The recent discovery of intracellular carbonatogenesis in several cyanobacteria species has challenged the traditional view that this process was extracellular and not controlled. However, a detailed analysis of the size distribution, chemical composition and 3-D-arrangement of carbonates in these cyanobacteria is lacking. Here, we characterized these features in Candidatus Gloeomargarita litho...

Introduction: Carbonate production is thermodynamically inhibited under low-pH conditions. More specifically, in most terrestrial environments, neither abiotic or biotic pathways favor the production of carbonates below a pH of ~4.5. However, carbonate minerals have been recognized associated to extremely acidic environments of Río Tinto, Spain. The mineralogical similarity of these deposits at...

Fungal biomineralization of carbonates results in metal removal from solution or immobilization within a solid matrix. Such a system provides a promising method for removal of toxic or valuable metals from solution, such as Co, Ni, and La, with some carbonates being of nanoscale dimensions. A fungal Mn carbonate biomineralization process can be applied for the synthesis of novel electrochemical...

This review discusses the tertiary phosphines possessing various chiral skeletons that have been used in asymmetric nucleophilic organocatalytic reactions, including annulations of allenes, alkynes, and Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) acetates, carbonates, and ketenes with activated alkenes and imines, allylic substitutions of MBH acetates and carbonates, Michael additions, γ-umpolung additions, an...

The catalytic synthesis of cyclic carbonates using carbon dioxide as a C1-building block is a highly active area of research. Here, we review the catalytic production of enantiomerically enriched cyclic carbonates via kinetic resolution of racemic epoxides catalysed by metal-containing catalyst systems.

Oxime carbonates were found to be excellent precursors for the clean and direct generation of iminyl radicals under UV irradiation. Suitably functionalised iminyls underwent cyclisations yielding various phenanthridines and also substituted quinolines and isoquinolines. EPR and X-ray analyses of oxime carbonates provided insight into the mechanism.
