BACKGROUND Plantaris tendon, peronus brevis tendon and flexor hallucis longus tendon augmentation, commonly used in Achilles tendon rupture, often lead to weakening of injured foot and they require the immobilization after the surgery. It is essential to develop the technique, which gives no such limitation and allows for immediate functional improvement. METHODS We present our method of mini...
INTRODUCTION Foot and ankle impact injury is common in geriatric trauma and often leads to fracture of rearfoot, including calcaneus and talus. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of foot impact on the risk of calcaneus and talus fracture via finite element analysis. METHODS A three-dimensional finite element model of foot and ankle was constructed based on magnetic resona...
The aim of this study was to establish reference data for the quantitative ultrasound (QUS) of the calcaneus and for the bone mineral densities (BMD) of the calcaneus and distal forearm, and to evaluate the correlation between QUS parameters and BMD in a Korean population. We performed a cross-sectional study involving 3,053 subjects (1,225 men and 1,828 women). QUS was conducted on the calcane...
The authors describe a technique in which two 5.5-mm pins are inserted from the posterior aspect of the calcaneus and advanced anteriorly on a slightly convergent vector. The 2 points of fixation, with a 5/8 ring, provide a "steering wheel" effect allowing for leverage and control of the hindfoot and ankle. The construct also allows for offloading of the posterior calcaneus.
BACKGROUND Bony destructive injury of the calcaneus (BDIC) represents one of the most severe comminuted fractures of the calcaneus in which soft tissue coverage remains intact. The features of this injury include a collapsed articular surface, significant widening, severe loss of height and an unrecognisable outline of the calcaneus. This study aims to present the long-term outcomes of BDIC tre...
1. This study examined the influence of brisk walking on skeletal status in post-menopausal women. 2. Subjects were 84 healthy women aged 60-70 years. Who were previously sedentary and at least 5 years post-menopausal. Subjects were randomly assigned to walking (n = 43) and control (n = 41) groups. Walkers followed a 12-month, largely unsupervised programme of brisk walking. The bone mineral de...

Ewing's Sarcoma of the calcaneus has been infrequently reported in literature. Metastases to the adjoining tibia and fibula have been reported even more rarely. We report a patient who, at the time of presentation, showed gross destruction of the calcaneus and metastases to the ipsilateral tibia and fibula.
