Alkylation of γ-cyclodextrin with 3 equiv. of 1,3-bis[bis(4-tert-butylphenyl)chloromethyl]benzene, followed by permethylation afforded selectively a singly capped (A,B), as well as two doubly capped (A,B:D,E and A,B:E,F) methylated γ-CDs. Deprotection with HBF4 gave quantitatively the corresponding diols and tetrols, which constitute valuable starting compounds for further functionalisation.

The first tetra-substituted non-fused chrysene, 3,6,9,12-tetrakis(4-tert-butylphenyl)chrysene with blue electroluminescence at 450 nm, and with a radiance of 500 cd m(-2), was synthesized by a two-step procedure: direct bromination of chrysene in trimethyl phosphate, followed by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of tetrabromochrysene and tert-butylphenylboronic acid .

As a first example of opening a secondary aziridine with a tertiary carbanion, the title amines (3a-c, aryl = phenyl, 4-tert-butylphenyl,2-naphthyl) were synthesized by opening N-(diphenylphosphinoyl)-7-azabicyclo[4.1.0]heptane, aziridine 1, with the corresponding alpha-potassium isopropylarenes, followed by a hydrolysis of the resulting phosphinamides 2a-c.
