養豚汚水処理においては,窒素化合物除去の重要性が増している。窒素除去を円滑に進めるには,生物化学的酸素要求量(BOD)の負荷量原単位の適正化が必要である。そこで,9農場の汚水についてBOD,全窒素(N)およびカリウムイオン(K+)の濃度を調査した。この結果,BOD/N比とBOD/K+比の間には決定係数0.85~0.88の良好な相関関係がみられた。窒素除去に適するとされているBOD/N比3~4の時のBOD/K+比を相関の回帰式により求めると,凝集分離前の汚水で6.39~8.56,高分子凝集剤による凝集分離後の汚水で5.08~6.65となった。これらの比に,尿中カリウム排せつ量原単位として報告されている9.2 g/頭/日を乗ずることで,窒素除去に適するBOD負荷量原単位を分離前汚水で58.8~78.8 g/頭/日,分離後汚水で46.7~61.2 g/頭/日と推定した。
