The objective of this study was to determine the effects of feeding protein-iron complex (PIC) on productive performance and indicators of iron metabolism, hematology parameters, antioxidant and immune status during first 35 days of a calf's life. Preparation of the complex involved enzymatic hydrolysis of milk casein (serine protease from Yarrowia lipolytica yeast). Iron chloride was then adde...

An iron-sulfur protein has been purified from beef heart ubiquinol-cytochrome c oxidoreductase (Complex III) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain by phenyl-Sepharose column chromatography and Sephacryl S-200 gel chromatography. Depletion of most of the endogenous phospholipids in the complex was a prerequisite to the dissociation of the protein from the complex in the former chromatography. T...

The synthesis of two molecular iron complexes, a dinuclear iron(iii, iii) complex and a nonanuclear iron complex, based on the dinucleating ligand 2,2'-(2-hydroxy-5-methyl-1,3-phenylene)bis(1H-benzo[d]imidazole-4-carboxylic acid) is described. The two iron complexes were found to drive the oxidation of water by the one-electron oxidant [Ru(bpy)3](3+).

Reaction of a nonheme iron(III)-peroxo complex, [Fe(III)(14-TMC)(O2)](+), with NO(+), a transformation which is essentially isoelectronic with that for nitric oxide dioxygenases [Fe(III)(O2˙(-)) + NO], affords an iron(IV)-oxo complex, [Fe(IV)(14-TMC)(O)](2+), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), followed by conversion to an iron(III)-nitrato complex, [Fe(III)(14-TMC)(NO3)(F)](+).

Indium is a heavy metal belonging to group IIIa. It is believed that indium may interfere with iron metabolism from the sites of absorption, transportation, utilization and storage in the cells. The present investigation was established to study and compare the binding of iron and indium to human apo-transferrin (apo-tf). Pure human apo-tf was used and the binding activity of iron and indium, a...

1. Hen ovotransferrin was examined by isoelectric fractionation. 2. The major component observed in starch-gel electrophoresis can be isolated from the minor component. 3. When non-saturating amounts of iron are added to ovotransferrin, isoelectric fractionation demonstrates the existence of three molecular species corresponding to the metal-free protein, the one-iron-atom-protein complex and t...

The phenyl-iron complex of 5,10,15-tritolylcorrole was prepared by reaction of the starting chloro-iron complex with phenylmagnesium bromide in dichloromethane. The organometallic complex was fully characterized by a combination of spectroscopic methods, X-ray crystallography, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. All of these techniques support the description of the electronic str...

Iron is an essential nutrient for all plants. However, terrestrial plants often suffer from iron deficiency in alkaline soil due to its extremely low solubility. Alkaline soil accounts for about 30% of all cultivated ground in the world. Plants have evolved two distinct strategies, I and II, for iron uptake from the soil. Dicots and non-graminaceous monocots use Strategy I, which is primarily b...
