Chronically implantable wireless neural interface devices require biocompatible and stable high density integration of several components such as sensing elements, data processors, communication, and power supply coils. Biocompatible integration technology has been developed for Utah Electrode Array (UEA) based implantable neural interface devices. These interface devices comprise: silicon base...

The results of the randomized trial by Fan et al. suggest that 'biocompatible' peritoneal dialysis solutions have no major advantage over standard solutions in peritoneal dialysis patients in relation to residual renal function (RRF) and technique survival. The possible effect of more biocompatible peritoneal dialysis solutions on RRF should be tested in patients starting peritoneal dialysis pr...

This paper provides an overview of how the surface properties of ferromagnetic nanoparticles dispersed in fluids is modified by natural and biocompatible polymers. Among common magnetic nanoparticles, magnetite (Fe3O4) and maghemite (g-Fe203) are popular candidates because of their biocompatibility. Natural polymeric coating materials are the most commonly used biocompatible magnetic nanopartic...

BACKGROUND A multicenter, multi-country randomized controlled trial (the balANZ study) recently reported that peritonitis rates significantly improved with the use of neutral-pH peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions low in glucose degradation products ("biocompatible") compared with standard solutions. The present paper reports a secondary outcome analysis of the balANZ trial with respect to perit...

In accordance with the present invention, there are provided compositions useful for the in vivo delivery of a biologic, wherein the biologic is associated with a polymeric shell formulated from a biocompatible material. The biologic can be associated with the polymeric shell itself, and/or the biologic, optionally suspended/dispersed in a biocompatible dispersing agent, can be encased by the p...

The enzyme catalysed esterification of starch and fatty acids with terminal triple bonds is described. This material can be used as an acceptor for azide containing molecules, through azide/alkyne cycloaddition. The potential is illustrated by the production of fluorescently-labelled starch, and a biotinylated derivative which can bind streptavidin.

Quantum dots (QDs) are nanometer-sized semiconductor particles with tunable fluorescent optical property that can be adjusted by their chemical composition, size, or shape. In the past 10 years, they have been demonstrated as a powerful fluorescence tool for biological and biomedical applications, such as diagnostics, biosensing and biolabeling. QDs with high fluorescence quantum yield and opti...

Corrosion prevention in biomaterials has become crucial particularly to overcome inflammation and allergic reactions caused by the biomaterials' implants towards the human body. When these metal implants contacted with fluidic environments such as bloodstream and tissue of the body, most of them became mutually highly antagonistic and subsequently promotes corrosion. Biocompatible implants are ...

We present a novel one-step flow process to synthesize biocompatible gold nanorods with tunable absorption and biocompatible surface ligands. Photothermal optical coherence tomography (OCT) of human breast tissue is successfully demonstrated using tailored gold nanorods designed to have strong absorption in the near-infrared range.
