In this paper, we demonstrate how semantic categories of images can be learnt from their color distributions using an effective probabilistic approach. Many previous probabilistic approaches are based on the Naïve Bayes that assume independence among attributes, which are represented by a single Gaussian distribution. We use a derivative of the Naïve Bayesian classifier, called Flexible Bayesia...
We predict the operon structure of the Bacillus subtilis genome using the average operon length, the distance between genes in base pairs, and the similarity in gene expression measured in time course and gene disruptant experiments. By expressing the operon prediction for each method as a Bayesian probability, we are able to combine the four prediction methods into a Bayesian classifier in a s...
Bayesian model averaging linearly mixes the probabilistic predictions of multiple models, each weighted by its posterior probability. This is the coherent Bayesian way of combining multiple models only under certain restrictive assumptions, which we outline. We explore a general framework for Bayesian model combination (which differs from model averaging) in the context of classification. This ...
OBJECTIVE: To classify patients by age based upon information extracted from their electro-cardiograms (ECGs). To develop and compare the performance of Bayesian classifiers. METHODS AND MATERIAL: We present a methodology for classifying patients according to statistical features extracted from their ECG signals using a genetically evolved Bayesian network classifier. Continuous signal feature...
On the basis of examining the existing restricted Bayesian network classifiers, a new Bayes-theorem-based and more strictly restricted Bayesian-network-based classification model DLBAN is proposed, which can be viewed as a double-level Bayesian network augmented naive Bayes classification. The experimental results show that the DLBAN classifier is better than the TAN classifier in the most cases.
This paper describes the modeling of a weed infestation risk inference system that implements a collaborative inference scheme based on rules extracted from two Bayesian network classifiers. The first Bayesian classifier infers a categorical variable value for the weed–crop competitiveness using as input categorical variables for the total density of weeds and corresponding proportions of narro...
