Tens of thousands of terpenoid natural products have been isolated from plants and microbial sources. Higher fungi (Ascomycota and Basidiomycota) are known to produce an array of well-known terpenoid natural products, including mycotoxins, antibiotics, antitumor compounds, and phytohormones. Except for a few well-studied fungal biosynthetic pathways, the majority of genes and biosynthetic pathw...

Class I hydrophobins are functional amyloids secreted by fungi. They self-assemble into organized films at interfaces producing structures that include cellular adhesion points and hydrophobic coatings. Here, we present the first structure and solution properties of a unique Class I protein sequence of Basidiomycota origin: the Schizophyllum commune hydrophobin SC16 (hyd1). While the core β-bar...

Tremella anaptychiae, a lichenicolous fungus growing on Anaptychia ciliaris, is described as new. Both morphological and molecular data (DNA sequences from the ITS and 28S regions) are used to characterize and distinguish it from other Tremella s. l. species. Tremella anaptychiae is closely related to T. parmeliarum but comparatively distantly related to other previously recognized lichenicolou...

Nineteen species of Crinipellis (Basidiomycota, Agaricales) and three species of Moniliophthora (Basidiomycota, Agaricales) are described from Southeast Asia. Thirteen relevant type studies along with excluded and insufficiently known taxa are also included. Five new species and one new form of Crinipellis (C. brunnescens, C. cupreostipes, C. dipterocarpi f. cinnamomea, C. furcata, C. malesiana...

Here, we report the genome sequence of the basidiomycete white-rot fungus Trametes pubescens FBCC735, isolated from Finland. The 39.67-Mb genome containing 14,451 gene models is typical among saprobic wood-rotting species.

Wood-decaying Basidiomycetes are among the most efficient degraders of plant cell walls, making them key players in forest ecosystems, global carbon cycle, and bio-based industries. Recent insights from -omics data revealed a high functional diversity wood-decay strategies, especially traditional white-rot brown-rot dichotomy. We examined mechanistic bases conifer-specialists Armillaria ostoyae...

A standard draft genome sequence of the white rot saprotrophic fungus Trametes hirsuta 072 (Basidiomycota, Polyporales) is presented. The genome sequence contains about 33.6 Mb assembled in 141 scaffolds with a G+C content of ~57.6%. The draft genome annotation predicts 14,598 putative protein-coding open reading frames (ORFs).

Tylopilus orsonianus sp. nov. and Tylopilus eximius (Boletaceae, Basidiomycota) are described for the first time from the Pakaraima Mountains of Guyana. Both boletes occur in forests dominated by ectomycorrhizal trees in the genus Dicymbe (Caesalpiniaceae). A key to Tylopilus species distinguishes those known to occur in Guyana.

The ambrosia beetle, Platypus koryoensis, is a serious pest of oak trees in Korea. In this study we investigated filamentous fungi present in the body of the beetle. Fourteen genera of filamentous fungi belonging to Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were isolated. Among the isolated fungi, some were able to produce wood degrading enzymes. This is first report of fungi associated with P. koryoensis.

We describe and comment on a new species of Cortinarius (Basidiomycota), C. mahiquesii, collected in a pure Cistus monspeliensis scrub community in Catalonia (NE of the Iberian Peninsula). Drawings of microscopic characters, scanning microphotographs of the basidiospores, and colour pictures of the basidiomes in their natural habitat are provided. A molecular analysis was carried out to charact...
