OBJECTIVE The present study was carried out to investigate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of virgin coconut oil (VCO) produced by the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (MARDI) using various in vivo models. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two types of VCOs, produced via standard drying (VCOA) and fermentation (VCOB) processes were used in this study. Both VCO...

The members of genus Ocimum find wide application in traditional medicine. The current study was undertaken to evaluate the probable mechanisms of antinociceptive action of chloroform/ethanol extracts of Ocimum masaiense roots. The extract was prepared by soxhlet extraction. The mechanism of action experiments involved administration of various blockers along with the extract in the formalin te...

In this study, the antinociceptive effects of the gap junction blocker carbenoxolone and morphine were examined using the formalin test as a model of pain. We found that carbenoxolone was dose-dependently antinociceptive in both the first and second phases of the formalin test. Pretreatment with carbenoxolone increased antinociceptive effect of morphine in the first phase of formalin test. Also...

BACKGROUND Dalbergia sissoo DC. (Family: Fabaceae) is a medium to large deciduous tree, is locally called "shishu" in Bangladesh. It is used to treat sore throats, dysentery, syphilis, bronchitis, inflammations, infections, hernia, skin diseases, and gonorrhea. This study evaluated the antinociceptive effect of the methanol extract of D. sissoo leaves (MEDS) in mice. METHODS The extract was a...

Some of the chromophoric chain substituted hemicyaninocolourants (CCHCs) were synthesized and confirmed on the basis of nitrogen analysis. These were tested for their antinociceptive activity in albino rats against tail flick technique and sodium chloride induced writhing test. Test compounds were given in graded doses (10, 20 and 50 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) and compared with morphine and aspi...

Pain is universally understood as a signal of disease and is the most common symptom about a disease. Modern clinical medicine and traditional medicine share common goals of alleviating pain and eliminating the causes of pain. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical drugs especially opioid analgesics often cause serious short- and long-term side-effects. As a result, more and more patients are turning t...

Mitragynine is a major alkaloidal constituent of young leaves of Mitragyna speciosa Korth, that is known to exhibit narcotic-like activity. In this study, we investigated the roles of central monoaminergic systems in the antinociceptive action of mitragynine by means of the tail-pinch and hot-plate tests in mice. Mitragynine (1.0-10 micrograms) injected i.c.v. exerted a dose-dependent antinocic...

Purpose. The present study was designed to investigate the antinociceptive, anxiolytic, CNS depressant, and hypoglycemic effects of the naproxen metal complexes. Methods. The antinociceptive activity was evaluated by acetic acid-induced writhing method and radiant heat tail-flick method while anxiolytic activity was evaluated by elevated plus maze model. The CNS depressant activity of naproxen ...

Marine natural products have been the focus of discovery for new products of chemical and pharmacological interest. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antinociceptive activity of the methanolic (ME), acetate (AE), hexanic (HE) and chloroform (CE) extracts obtained from Caulerpa mexicana, and ME, CE and HE obtained from Caulerpa sertularioides. These marine algae are found all over the wo...
