New examples of ansa-titanocenes derived from 1,2-bis(2-indenyl)ethane have been prepared. The titanium-mediated reductive coupling of 2-(hydroxymethyl)indenes provided a convenient method for substrate dimerization. Alkyl substitution of the indene ring at C(3) improved the regioselectivity of the reductive coupling to provide the ethylene bis(2-indenyl)ansa-ligands in 29–62% yield.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS We investigated the clinical efficacy of free nerve grafts in bridging gaps between the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and ansa cervicalis in patients with unilateral RLN injury. STUDY DESIGN We retrospectively reviewed the charts of 14 patients who underwent relevant free nerve grafting and assessed the clinical outcomes of this procedure. METHODS Between January 200...
OBJECTIVE We sought to describe the results of ansa cervicalis to recurrent laryngeal nerve (ansa-RLN) reinnervation for unilateral vocal fold paralysis. STUDY DESIGN A chart review was performed on patients undergoing ansa-RLN reinnervation for unilateral vocal cord paralysis at a tertiary care center. Patient perceptions of preoperative and postoperative voice quality was surveyed. Acoustic...
207 Novel olefin-linked biscylopentadienylligands have been prepared by McMurry coupling reactions of benzoyland acetyl-cyclopentadienyl sodium. Reactions of the disodium salts with TiC1 4 or TiCl 3 • 3THF afford the alkene-bridged ansa-titanocene dichlorides. 13C-NMR shifts of the bridge carbon atoms do not indicate any interaction between the olefin 'IT-system and the metal.
A case report of complex auricular neuralgia treated with the great auricular nerve and facet blocks
BACKGROUND The great auricular nerve is a cutaneous branch of the cervical plexus originating from the C2 and C3 spinal nerves. It innervates the skin over the external ear, the angle of the mandible and the parotid gland. It communicates with the ansa cervicalis. Great auricular neuralgia is rarely diagnosed in clinical practice and can be refractory. We present a new approach using ultrasound...
In laryngeal paralysis, the stiffness of the denervated vocal fold is decreased. This leads to deviant vibratory patterns involving 2 asymmetric vocal folds and results in abnormal vocal quality. Follow-up studies of medialization thyroplasty patients have noted that decrement in vocal quality after medialization is often because of continuing vocal fold atrophy. Vocal cord atrophy from denerva...
