Ungiminorine N-oxide was isolated from Puncrutium maritimum, and homolycorine N-oxide and O-methyl lycorenine N-oxide from Lapiedra martinezii. These compounds represent the first examples of naturally occurring Noxides from the Amaryllidaceae.

Thirteen alkaloids have been isolated from dried bulbs and leaves of flowering Eucharis amazonica (Amaryllidaceae). The alkaloids, 7-methoxyoxoassoanine, 6-O-methylpretazettine and apohaemanthamine, are reported for the first time from a natural source.

Abstract Amaryllidoideae is a subfamily belonging to the Amaryllidaceae and widely distributed in southern hemisphere. The well known for its content of pharmacologically active alkaloids represents an important epicenter Amaryllidaceae-alkaloid diversity. Other metabolites from such as phenolics including flavonoids, lignans, chromones, acetophenones, addition terpenoids ceramides, have been r...

The Amaryllidaceae family has proven to be a rich source of active compounds, which are characterized by unique skeleton arrangements and a broad spectrum of biological activities. The aim of this work was to perform the first detailed study of the alkaloid constituents of Hippeastrum reticulatum (Amaryllidaceae) and to determine the anti-parasitological and cholinesterase (AChE and BuChE) inhi...

amaryllidaceae is a well-known family for its high alkaloidal content. these alkaloids comprise a unique group of bases that have been found to occur in this family. the amaryllidaceae alkaloids represent a large and still expanding group of isoquinoline alkaloids, the majority of which are not known to occur in any other family of plants this article reports on the phytochemical investigation ...

The monophyletic Eurasian clade of Amaryllidaceae was analyzed using plastid ndhF and rDNA ITS sequences for 33 and 29 taxa, respectively; all genera were represented by at least one species. Both maximum parsimony and Bayesian analysis were used on each data set and the combined data. Both sequence matrices resolve the Central and East Asian tribe Lycorideae as sister to the Mediterranean-cent...

A new species of the New World genus Lespesia, Lespesia melloi SP NOV: (Diptera: Tachinidae), is described from southeastern Brazil. The species is reported here as a parasitoid of Xanthopastis timais (Cramer, 1782) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The caterpillars of this noctuid feed on leaves and bulbs of amaryllis (Amaryllidaceae) in Brazil.

AIMS The current study was designed to document medicinal plant species that are traditionally used to treat tuberculosis (TB) by Ghanaian communities. METHODS The medicinal plants used against TB or its signs and symptoms were selected using library and online published data searches. A guided questionnaire interview was also conducted with a botanist involved in plant collection at the Cent...

The antiproliferative activity of a set of seven natural Amaryllidaceae alkaloids and 32 derivatives against four cancer cell lines (A2780, SW1573, T47-D and WiDr) was determined. The best antiproliferative activities were achieved with alkaloids derived from pancracine (2), haemanthamine (6) and haemantidine (7). For each skeleton, some structure-activity relationships were outlined.
