In this paper, we have presented an X band high power amplifier based on MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) technology for satellite remote sensing systems. We have used GaN HEMT process with 500 nm gate length technology with VD= 40 V and VG= -2 V in class E structure. The proposed two-stage power amplifier provides 25 dB power gain with maximum output power of 49.3 dBm at 10 GHz. ...

The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Technical Committee on Frequency Allocation in Remote Sensing (FARS) is charged with providing recommendations and responses to queries on interference and frequency allocation issues in passive and active microwave remote sensing. In response to questions stemming from proposals to develop ultra-widehand (UWB) vehicular radar systems operat...

Participatory sensing is a powerful paradigm that leverages information sent by smartphone users to collect fine-grained information on events of interest. Given participatory sensing applications rely completely on the users’ willingness to submit up-to-date and reliable information, it is paramount to effectively incentivize users’ active and reliable participation. In this paper, we survey e...

Permission is granted to quote short excerpts and to reproduce figures and tables from this report, provided that the source of such material is fully acknowledged. Abstract Active three-dimensional vision is concerned with extracting information from the geometry and the texture of the visible surfaces in a scene, reasoning about the data and finally, communicating the results. In order to tak...

An active sensing method for multisensor fusion systems with actuators is proposed. To realize active sensing with multiple sensors, i) where to position sensors, ii) how to associate data, and iii) how to fuse data should be determined. The authors propose a new method mainly concerning i). The method utilizes estimated errors of estimated values to determine optimal sensor locations where use...

Sensation is an active process involving the sampling and central processing of external stimuli selectively in space and time. Olfaction in particular depends strongly on active sensing due to the fact that-at least in mammals-inhalation of air into the nasal cavity is required for odor detection. This seemingly simple first step in odor sensation profoundly shapes nearly all aspects of olfact...

Active electrosense is used by some fish for the sensing of nearby objects by means of the perturbations the objects induce in a self-generated electric field. As with echolocation (sensing via perturbations of an emitted acoustic field) active electrosense is particularly useful in environments where darkness, clutter or turbidity makes vision ineffective. Work on engineered variants of active...

Strong interest in applying wireless sensing technologies within structural monitoring systems has grown in recent years. Wireless sensors are capable of passively collecting response measurements of a dynamic structural system at low-costs. However, the role of wireless sensing within structural monitoring systems can be expanded if sensors are provided a direct interface to the physical syste...

This paper describes two fast range sensing systems that are being developed at the RobottcS Institute of Carnegie MelIon. The first system is a passive video-rate stereo machine, based on the multi-baseline stereo theory, whose expected performance will exceed that of existing stereo methods or mediumto-short distance scanninglaser range Ande rsin most categories: high throughput (l.% Million ...
