background: although cockroaches are mechanical vector of many pathogens, still biological transmission of pathogens via these insects is controversial. more covenant immune defense in the hemolymph of cockroaches may take this advantage to block any adaptation of pathogens regarding to biological transmission. lectin molecules in hemolymph of insects play as mediators of nonself recognition,...

A gene, pcbC, encoding the isopenicillin N synthase of Streptomyces griseus NRRL 3851, has been cloned in a 6.4-kb Bg/II DNA fragment and located in an internal 1.55-kb PvuII segment by hybridization with the Penicillium chrysogenum pcbC gene. Hybridization studies revealed the presence of homologous sequences in the DNAs of several Streptomyces strains and Nocardia lactamdurans. The S. griseus...

This laboratory first became interested in hydroxyguanidine as a result of our studies on the mechanism of action of transamidination enzymes. We have found that transamidinases from Streptomyces griseus (2), mammalian pancreas (3) and kidney (4), and chicken and frog liver (5) can catalyze a transfer of the terminal formamidine group of arginine to hydroxylamine, with the formation of hydroxyg...

An arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) responsible for the N acetylation of exogenous 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoic acid in Streptomyces griseus was identified and characterized. This enzyme was distinct from other eukaryotic and bacterial NATs in that it acetylated various 2-aminophenol derivatives more effectively than it acetylated 5-aminosalicylic acid, and thus it may be involved in the metabol...

Cluster BG of the actinobacteriophage was formed upon discovery of five novel bacteriophages isolated by enrichment from their host, Streptomyces griseus subsp. griseus strain ATCC 10137. Four members of this cluster (BabyGotBac, Maih, TP1605, and YDN12) share over 89% average nucleotide identity, while the other (Xkcd426) has only 72% similarity to other cluster members.

New antibiotics, griseusins A and B were isolated from a strain of Streptomyces griseus. Both antibiotics have a 5-hydroxy-1, 4-naphthoquinone chromophore and their molecular formulae were determined to be C22H20O10 and C22H22O10, respectively. The griseusins are active against gram-positive bacteria.

Bacillus subtilis induces expression of the gene ytnP in the presence of the antimicrobial streptomycin, produced by the Gram-positive bacterium Streptomyces griseus. ytnP encodes a lactonase-homologous protein that is able to inhibit the signaling pathway required for the streptomycin production and development of aerial mycelium in S. griseus.

The sgtR1 and sgtR2 genes encoding putative regulators similar to the Aha1 and ArsR families, respectively, were identified downstream from the sprT gene. To investigate their function, expression vectors containing various combinations of sprT, sgtR1, and sgtR2 were transformed into Streptomyces lividans and Streptomyces griseus. The trypsin activity levels produced by S. lividans harboring pW...
