The more successful reso lu t i on programs today owe t h e i r power in part to e f f i c i e n t r e t r i e v a l mechanisms fo r re tu rn ing l i t e r a l s that are p o t e n t i a l l y u n i f i a h l e w i th or subsumed by a given l i t e r a l . For example, the e f f i c i e n t subsumption algor i thms and the hack demodulation of [2 ] are based on one such scheme, the FPA l i s t ...

The major part of the GARFIELD apparatus electronics are monitored and set up through a slow control system, which has been developed at LNL. A software package based on Lab View has been dedicated to the setting and control of 16 channels integrated Amplifiers and Constant Fraction Discriminators. GPIB controllers and GPIB-ENET interfaces have been used for the communication between the Person...

A globally convergent homotopy method is defined that is capable of sequentially producing large numbers of stationary points of the multi-layer perceptron mean-squared error surface. Using this algorithm large subsets of the stationary points of two test problems are found. It is shown empirically that the MLP neural network appears to have an extreme ratio of saddle points compared to local m...

High fluences inside cavity ring-down spectroscopy optical resonators lend themselves to fluorescence or Raman spectroscopy. An instrument at 488 nm was developed to measure extinction, and fluorescence of aerosols. A detection limit of 6 x 10;-9 cm;-1Hz;-1/2 (0.6 Mm;-1Hz;-1/2) was achieved. The fluorescence spectral power collected from a single fluorescent microsphere was 10 to 20 pW/nm. This...

The fluorescent dye Alexa Fluor 488 or the anticancer drug doxorubicin is attached to the surface and inner pore walls of mesoporous Si particles by covalent attachment, and the oxidation-induced release of each molecule is studied. The molecules are bound to the Si matrix using a 10-undecenoic acid linker, which is attached by thermal hydrosilylation. Loading capacity of the microparticles usi...

Using site-directed spin-labeling EPR spectroscopy, we mapped the region of the intrinsically disordered C-terminal domain of measles virus nucleoprotein (N(TAIL)) that undergoes induced folding. In addition to four spin-labeled N(TAIL) variants (S407C, S488C, L496C, and V517C) (Morin et al. (2006), J Phys Chem 110: 20596-20608), 10 new single-site cysteine variants were designed, purified from...

BACKGROUND: Substance P (SP) is a peptide neurotransmitter found in central and peripheral nerves. SP is involved in the control of smooth muscle, inflammation and nociception. The amino acid sequence of SP is Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2. Five different forms of fluorescently labeled SP have recently been synthesized, in which Alexa 488, BODIPY Fl, fluorescein, Oregon Green ...

AIM To study the optical properties of human normal small intestine tissue at 476.5 nm, 488 nm, 496.5 nm, 514.5 nm, 532 nm, 808 nm wavelengths of laser irradiation. METHODS A double-integrating-sphere system, the basic principle of measuring technology of light radiation, and an optical model of biological tissues were used in the study. RESULTS The results of measurement showed that there ...

Superresolution microscopy is currently revolutionizing optical imaging. A key factor for getting images of highest quality is - besides a well-performing imaging system - the labeling of the sample. We compared the fluorescent dyes Abberior Star 488, Alexa 488, Chromeo 488 and Oregon Green 488 for use in continuous wave (cw-)STED microscopy in aqueous buffer and in a durable polymer matrix. To...

A new concept of distributed IEEE-488 measuring systems using Java architecture is proposed. A connection of external modules (standard library for National Instruments IEEE-488.2 interface board) to source code in Java is described. Next, an example of the system, that uses a communication based on sockets for remote controlling of instruments, also via Internet, is presented.
