A general structure of trellis-based reduced-state soft-input/soft-output (RS-SISO) algorithms for communication systems based on concatenated `nite state machines (FSMs) with large memory is presented. Based on forward and backward reduced-state (RS) recursions, a particular structure for the RSSISO algorithm can be obtained by setting suitable parameters in the general formulation. Two novel ...

The optimum and many suboptimum iterative soft-input soft-output (SISO) multiuser detectors require a priori information about the multiuser system, such as the users’ transmitted signature waveforms, relative delays, as well as the channel impulse response. In this paper, we employ adaptive algorithms in the SISO multiuser detector in order to avoid the need for this a priori information. Firs...

Soft-input soft-output (SISO) devices play an important role in a variety of algorithms for communications problems. In an iterative structure, soft information is passed between a number of SISO devices, and the ensemble of the soft information evolves with each iteration. We develop and present a framework for analyzing the evolution of this soft information in a class of SISO linear equalizers.

This correspondence presents an optimal soft-in soft-out (SISO) decoding algorithm for the binary image of Reed–Solomon (RS) codes that is based on Vardy and Be’ery’s optimal soft-in hard-out algorithm. A novel suboptimal list-based SISO decoder that exploits Vardy and Be’ery’s decomposition is also presented. For those codes with very high rate, which allows practical decoding with the propose...

Design of Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) Homogeneous Sliding Modes (HSMs) for uncertain dynamic systems is considered. The resulting closed-loop systems feature all well-known standard properties of Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) HSM systems. Introduction of robust exact differentiators produces homogeneous output-feedback controllers. The ultimate asymptotic accuracy of SISO HSM technique ...

We show how to optimize the shape of the transfer function of a linear time invariant (LTI) single-input-single-output (SISO) system. Since any transfer function is rational, this can be formulated as an optimization problem for the coefficients of polynomials. After characterizing the cone of polynomials which are nonnegative on intervals, we formulate this problem using semidefinite programmi...

In space division multiplexing with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SDM–OFDM) systems, since co-channel interference (CCI) degrades the demodulation performance, CCI suppression is essential. For CCI suppression, the turbo detector using the soft-input softoutput maximum likelihood detector (SISO–MLD) is proposed. Although SISO–MLD can deal with soft information, SISO–MLD updates on...

This article presents a fairly complete account on various topological and metrical aspects of feedback stabilization for single-input single-output (SISO) continuous discrete time linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. In particular, we prove that the set stabilizing output gains SISO system with n states have at most [n/2] connected components. Furthermore, our analysis yields an algorithm dete...

In this paper, we revisit the forward, backward and bidirectional Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv (BCJR) soft-input soft-output (SISO) maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) decoding process of rate-1 convolutional codes. From this we establish some interesting duality properties between encoding and decoding of rate-1 convolutional codes. We observe that the forward and backward BCJR SISO MAP decoder...
