A 62-year-old man presented with bilateral nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis episodes. Physical examination revealed normal body temperature and free cervical lymph nodes areas. Nasal endoscopy found a congestive nasal mucosa associated to bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy with a granular aspect of the right inferior turbinate. The biological examination showed lymphopenia, infla...

Severe diarrheal illness in children can be attributed to a number of different microbiological agents. Without appropriate microbiological testing of stool samples, patients who present with multiple days of severe diarrhea might have a delay in proper diagnosis and treatment. Here, we report a case of an immunocompetent pediatric patient presenting with acute cryptosporidiosis. Humans and bov...
An improved acid-fast staining technique for sputum examination for the primary diagnosis of tuberculosis is described. The technique was modified and simplified by the elimination of heating and by combining the stages of counterstaining: making the technique easier and safer, with less risk of phenol aerosols. The efficiency of this method was evaluated by comparison with two conventional met...
Using Ziehl-Neelsen-positive slides collected from tuberculosis diagnostic centers in Burkina Faso, we showed that 20% of 80 spoligotyping-positive DNA samples had a characteristic Mycobacterium africanum-specific genomic signature. This result suggests that M. africanum is still present in Burkina Faso at almost the same prevalence as 15-20 years ago.
causes human intestinal cyclosporiasis. It is more common in the immunocompromised patients and mainly seen people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA), post-renal transplant (PRT) children (IC). Diagnostic microscopy for oocysts of parasite less sensitive, requiring examination multiple stool samples. Here we developed a new single run polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay detection it was used to know...
