We have studied the carbonate mineral kamphaugite-(Y)(CaY(CO3)2(OH)·H2O), a mineral which contains yttrium and specific rare earth elements. Chemical analysis shows the presence of Ca, Y and C. Back scattering SEM appears to indicate a single pure phase. The vibrational spectroscopy of kamphaugite-(Y) was obtained using a combination of Raman and infrared spectroscopy. Two distinct Raman bands ...
In this study, high nickel layered LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries were modified by yttrium doping and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) coating. The effects of PEDOT:PSS coating on the structural electrochemical properties material investigated compared. substitution with an electrochemically inert was confirmed to be successfu...
We demonstrate the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in single-layer graphene exchange coupled to an atomically flat yttrium iron garnet (YIG) ferromagnetic thin film. The anomalous Hall conductance has magnitude of ∼0.09(2e(2)/h) at low temperatures and is measurable up to ∼300 K. Our observations indicate not only proximity-induced ferromagnetism in graphene/YIG with a large exchange interaction, ...
The chaotic self-generation of short solitary spin wave pulses has been observed for the first time. The pulses were produced from parametrically excited spin waves in an yttrium-iron-garnet film in an active feedback ring under conditions where both three-wave and four-wave parametric processes were allowed. The power-frequency spectrum was broadband and chaotic.
The first homoleptic anions of hydroxylaminato ate-complexes of yttrium and samarium of the formulae K[M(ON(i)Pr(2))(4)] (M = Y, Sm) have been prepared and structurally characterised featuring variations of the hapticity of their ON(i)Pr(2) ligands leading to different chain connectivities in their solid state aggregates.
The "switchable mirror" yttrium hydride is one of the few strongly correlated systems with a continuous Mott-Hubbard metal-insulator transition. We systematically map out the low temperature electrical transport from deep in the insulator to the quantum critical point using persistent photoconductivity as a drive parameter. Both activated hopping over a Coulomb gap and power-law quantum fluctua...
Spin-wave devices (SWD), which use collective excitations of electronic spins as a carrier of information, are rapidly emerging as potential candidates for post-semiconductor non-charge-based technology. Isotropic in-plane propagating coherent spin waves (magnons), which require magnetization to be out of plane, is desirable in an SWD. However, because of lack of availability of low-damping per...
Terbium-doped layered yttrium hydroxychlorides (LYH:xTb) were explored for the simple and convenient detection of Cr(VI) in aqueous solution, where the effective overlap of excitation bands of LYH:xTb with absorption bands of Cr(VI) constructs a new inner filter effect system. The shielding of excitation light for LYH:xTb by adsorbed Cr(VI) was so effective that a feasible detection sensitivity...
First-principles calculations were carried out to elucidate the excellent control of p-n characteristics recently reported for yttrium aluminoborides YxAlyB14 [Formula: see text] with different occupancies of Al sites [Formula: see text]. Such control of the occupancy of metal sites in borides is unusual. Calculations based on detailed x-ray diffraction data reveal a stable configuration of the...
