The conjugated aromatic system of graphene was used to trap the reactive, boron-rich 1,2-carborane cluster. Functionalization of the graphene surface was confirmed by solid-state MAS (11)B NMR spectroscopy and quantified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This work represents the first confirmed example of direct functionalization of a graphene lattice with carboranes.

UNLABELLED Hemoglobin- and catalase-polymerized PEDOT PSS were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, visible and near-IR spectroscopy, FTIR, and ESR. Hemoglobin-polymerized PEDOT PSS possesses bipolarons, while catalase-polymerized PEDOT PSS is dominated by polarons. Use of heme-bound iron as an oxidant yields PEDOT PSS with conductivity of 19.5 S cm(-1) in a single-step aq...

Surface immobilised polymer brushes containing azobenzene units were prepared using a combination of microcontact chemistry and surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation (SI-ATRP). These brushes were investigated using AFM, XPS and UV/vis spectroscopy. It was shown that two surfaces bearing azobenzene brushes can be glued together in the presence of a β-cyclodextrin polymer and hol...

The vanadosilicate zeolite AM-6 is shown by a combination of spectroscopic techniques (UV-vis, Raman, XPS, XAS and EPR) to contain linear chains of alternating V=O and V-O bonds. The V(IV) ions in these chains are ferromagnetically coupled, and an excellent fit a to the susceptibility data with a one-dimensional Heisenberg model is obtained with J = 0.66(1) cm(-1). AM-6 is thus the first report...

We report a novel hybrid material Na2Mo4O13/α-MoO3 as highly efficient catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) catalyst, which showed the highest ever activity at room temperature and atmosphere pressure for the degradation of cationic red GTL. SEM and TEM analyses indicated that this hybrid catalyst has bamboo-shaped nanofiber morphology. In view of practical applications, the influence of some key...

Nanocrystalline TiO(2) samples were prepared by promoting the growth of a sol-gel precursor, in the presence of water, under continuous (CW), or pulsed (PW) ultrasound. All the samples turned out to be made of both anatase and brookite polymorphs. Pulsed US treatments determine an increase in the sample surface area and a decrease of the crystallite size, that is also accompanied by a more orde...

The porosity of platinum nanoparticle aggregates (PtNPs) is investigated electrochemically via particle-electrode impacts and by XPS. The mean charge per oxidative transient is measured from nanoimpacts; XPS shows the formation of PtO and PtO2 in relative amounts defined by the electrode potential and an average oxidation state is deduced as a function of potential. The number of platinum atoms...

The transport and magnetic properties of the tetragonal Fe[Formula: see text]S were investigated using magnetoresistivity and magnetization within [Formula: see text] K, [Formula: see text] 70 kOe and [Formula: see text] 3.0 GPa. In addition, room-temperature x-ray diffraction and photoelectron spectroscopy were also applied. In contrast to previously reported nonmetallic character, Fe[Formula:...
