Smart Morphable Surfaces enable switchable and tunable aerodynamic drag reduction of bluff bodies. Their topography, resembling the morphology of golf balls, can be custom-generated through a wrinkling instability on a curved surface. Pneumatic actuation of these patterns results in the control of the drag coefficient of spherical samples by up to a factor of two, over a range of flow conditions.

in this paper to predict the critical conditions for onset of elastic-plastic wrinkling of flange of a two-layered circular blank during the deep-drawing process a closed-form semi-analytical elastic-plastic solution using tresca yield criterion alongwith deformation theory in plasticity with considernig the perfectly plastic behaviour of materials is presented. simplifying the presented soluti...

Aquagenic wrinkling of the palms in adult patients with cystic fibrosis. Aquagenic Wrinkling of the Palms (AWP) is characterised by the development of oedematous white plaques on the hands following exposure to water. To date 30 cases of AWP have been reported, 17 of which are in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) 1. Only two cases have been reported in males 1,2. We have identified 45 patients...

OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of aquagenic wrinkling of the palms (AWP) in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) compared with control patients, and evaluate for genotype-phenotype correlations. Since its first description over 30 years ago, AWP has frequently been anecdotally associated with CF, but this association has not been confirmed in a rigorous prospective case-control study. DE...

BACKGROUND Lifestyle has been proven to have a dramatic effect on the risk of age-related diseases. The association of lifestyle and facial ageing has been less well studied. OBJECTIVES To identify lifestyle factors that associate with perceived facial age in white north European men and women. METHODS Lifestyle, facial wrinkling and perceived facial age were studied in two cross-sectional ...

The starfish oocyte is relatively clear optically, and its nucleus, termed the germinal vesicle, is large. These characteristics allowed studies by confocal microscopy of germinal vesicle breakdown during maturation in living oocytes. Three fluorescent probes for cytoplasmic components were used: fluorescein 70 kDa dextran, which does not cross the nuclear pore of immature oocytes and probably ...
