It is suggested that the recent anomalous data on Cabibbo-suppressed charm decays can be interpreted as a manifestation of a charged Higgs boson. If this were true, it would be the first experimental detection of a Higgs contribution. At the least, it demonstrates that large, interesting Higgs (i.e., scalar) contributions are consistent with present experimental constraints. Predictions are giv...
Accurate tumor classification is crucial to the proper treatment of cancer. To now, sparse representation (SR) has shown its great performance for tumor classification. This paper conceives a new SR-based method for tumor classification by using gene expression data. In the proposed method, we firstly use latent low-rank representation for extracting salient features and removing noise from the...
Introduction Casemix system is a patient classification system that classifies patients into predefined groups based on the patient level data. Because of the immense variation of the individual patient level data it is very tedious to do this Casemix group allocation manually, instead Casemix classification software with a predefined logic is used. UNU-IIGH has developed Casemix logic, and an ...
Decays of the lightest neutralino are studied in Rp-violating models, with operators λ′LQDc and λLLEc involving third-generation matter fields and with dominant λ′ and λ couplings. Decays with the top-quark among the particles produced are considered, in addition to those with an almost massless final state. Phenomenological analyses for examples of both classes of decays are presented. No spec...
The top quark is the most recently discovered quark. Relatively little is known about its properties so far. Due to its very large mass of about 175 GeV/c, the top quark behaves differently from all other quarks and provides a unique environment for tests of the Standard Model. Furthermore, it is believed to yield sensitivity to physics beyond the Standard Model. This report discusses the lates...
An overview over the recent heavy flavor results of the H1 and ZEUS collaborations is presented. Various techniques to tag the heavy quark, which allow to explore different phase space regions, are employed. Predictions of pertubative QCD are compared to the charm and beauty production data. Charm and beauty fractions of the proton structure function F2 are extracted.
By using techniques of unitarized chiral perturbation theory, where the Λ(1405) and Λ(1670) resonances are dynamically generated, we evaluate the magnetic moments of these resonances and their transition magnetic moment. The results obtained here differ appreciably from those obtained with existing quark models. The width for the Λ(1670) → Λ(1405)γ transition is also evaluated leading to a bran...
We discuss the problem of the large discrepancy between the observed lifetime ratio of Λb to Bd and the theoretical prediction obtained by the heavy quark effective theory. A new possibility of solving this problem is proposed from the viewpoint of operator product expansion and the lifetime ratio of Ωb to Bd is predicted. The heavy quark effective theory (HQET) is successful in explaining vari...
Some of the motivations for quark and lepton compositeness, and some problems associated with present schemes, are noted. One model is discussed in which quarks and leptons are taken as composites of spin-1/2 fermions F with charges ±1/2 and spinless bosons S̄ with charges 1/6 and −1/2.
Some features of SO(10) GUT models are reviewed, and a number of such models in the literature are compared. While some have been eliminated by recent neutrino data, others are presently successful in explaining the quark and lepton mass and mixing data. A short description of one very predictive model is given which illustrates some of the features discussed. Future tests of the models are poi...
