Molecular dynamics simulations are used for studying the contact angle of nanoscale sessile drops on a planar solid wall in a system interacting via the truncated and shifted Lennard-Jones potential. The entire range between total wetting and dewetting is investigated by varying the solid-fluid dispersive interaction energy. The temperature is varied between the triple point and the critical te...

Bandwidth plays an important role in determining the performance of local linear estimators. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian approach to bandwidth selection for local linear estimation of time–varying coefficient time series models, where the errors are assumed to follow the Gaussian kernel error density. A Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm is presented to simultaneously estimate the band...

Lymph node cells of ovalbumin-sensitized rats were separated on the basis of buoyant density into fractions reciprocally enriched in cells responsive to ovalbumin or phytohemagglutinin (PHA). Recombination of high density and low density fractions in varying proportions resulted in potentiation or suppression of the DNA synthetic response to PHA in culture. The response of cultures containing e...

We investigate the occurrence of noise in the interplanetary density and the magnetic field at varying heliocentric 1/f latitudes. The characteristic spectral amplitudes can be found in Ulysses density and magnetic data in the expected frequency ranges at all available latitudes, ranging from the ecliptic plane to more than 80 . Average spectra indicate a latitudinal variation, with a density s...

Fermi-level pinning by misfit dislocations at GaAs interfaces has been investigated. n -GaInAs was used to control the misfit dislocation density by varying of composition and epilayer thickness. interfaces with zero or low dislocation densities are Ohmic to current flow, and become rectifying with increasing dislocation density. The "Schottky barrier height" increases with dislocation density ...

We present a Thomas-Fermi-inspired density scaling under which electron densities of atomic, molecular, or condensed matter become both large and slowly varying, so that semiclassical approximations and second-order density gradient expansions are asymptotically exact for the kinetic and exchange energies. Thus, even for atoms and molecules, density-functional approximations should recover the ...

This paper presents the study of density fluctuations in a model for vibrated granular media. Their microscopic origin is shown to be linked to the microscopic disorder in grains packing. Varying vibrations amplitude and duration, several regimes are found for density relaxation. Its power spectrum is well described by power laws.

In the physical vacuum of QCD, the energy density of lightquark fields strongly coupled to slowly varying gluon fields can be negative. The states that drive this energy density lowest are condensates of pairs of quarks and antiquarks of nearly opposite momenta. These quark-antiquark condensates break chiral symmetry.

We study the stationary Kac equation in the presence of an external force field and a Gaussian thermostat, and investigate the behavior of a solution to this equation for varying field strength. We prove that for a weak field, the stationary density is continuous, but for a strong field the density has a singularity. Monte Carlo simulations illustrating the same are also presented.

Gridding is a relevant algorithm for both image reconstruction and pulse design. With Gridding, it is crucial to appropriately compensate for varying density of the sampling trajectory. In this document, we present a technique to determine the density compensation weights by solving a least squares optimization problem.
