RATIONALE High-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) is often used to treat infants with pathologies associated with gas trapping and abnormal lung mechanics, who are sensitive to the adverse effects of suction. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the effect of closed suction (CS), catheter size, and the use of active post-suction sighs on tracheal pressure (P(trach)), and global and regiona...

Compressor performance is ioiluenced by many factors. Besides the commonly considered factors such as suction gas heating, leakage, compressed gas re-expansion, gas pulsations, and back flow, supercharging effect on performance is also studied. Since the compressor used in this study operates in a wide speed range, from 1100 rpm up to 9000 rpm, how those factors affect the compressor performanc...

the aim of the present paper is to study the cu-water nanofluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of a stretching permeable cylinder. thermal radiation effect is considered in energy equation. the governing partial differential equations with the corresponding boundary conditions are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations with the appropriate boundary conditions using similari...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.

OBJECTIVE To develop a thoracoscopic technique for correcting and/or removing an intrathoracic disease process using our existing operating room equipment and without a "small thoracotomy." METHODS AND PROCEDURES Fifty-eight patients from October 1994 to April 1998 were prospectively studied. All were undergoing procedures involving the removal of a suspected benign (or infectious) pleural pr...

Suction caisson foundation systems have been successfully used in the past two decades in numerous occasions on a variety of offshore structures in a wide range of environments. The pull-out capacity of suction caissons remains a critical issue in their applications, and reliable methods of predicting the capacity are required in order to produce effective designs. In the current study a numeri...

Background: Nowadays, due to an increase in patients require intensive care, application of mechanical ventilation and endotracheal tube is necessary. In order to Keeping an open airway, endotracheal suctioning is necessary. Select the appropriate suction method can reduce the severe complications. The aim of this study is comparing the efficacy of open and closed suctioning on heart disrhythmi...

Optimisation provides the means of raising or lowering the target suction pressure in a Honeywell Genus® pack controller. Suction pressure optimisation means that suction pressures are raised to the highest level allowed within defined evaporator performance limits. This provides optimum compressor energy consumption while ensuring that the refrigerated merchandise quality is maintained at the ...

Experiments in dogs showed that the high levels of cellular aggregation and trauma caused by cariodtomy suction can be considerably reduced by the avoidance of air aspiration. A hypothesis is proposed to explain this on the basis of shear stresses in the inlet cannula. Roller pump suction was also found to be slightly more traumatic than vaccum suction, but contact of the blood with the pericar...

Esophageal foreign bodies (FB) are common in adults and children. These are rarely reported in infants and neonates. A 2-day-old newborn was referred to our hospital with history of accidental intrusion of soft silicone suction catheter into the upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT). X-ray chest and abdomen confirmed the presence of suction tube in esophagus and stomach. The suction catheter was r...
