In considering the second version of the Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill, the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) opted for a position of ‘neutrality’,1 changing its earlier opposition to physician assisted suicide (PAS) and voluntary euthanasia (VE).2 ‘Neutrality’ towards this second version of the bill, however, was controversial, being perceived as a change to indifference or tacit ...

Previous architectures in the literature for computing the matching cost report no benefit from using color information [3, 1]. In our experiments we observed that after deepening our network, the use of the three input channels contributes to the accuracy of the disparity prediction, especially around areas of delicate color differences between the object and its background. An example for thi...

The effect of varying donor X in otherwise structurally similar O(2)S(2)X-macrocycles (L(1): X = S, L(2): X = O and L(3): X = NH) on the corresponding assembly reactions with Cu(I) halides has been demonstrated to yield three supramolecular complexes with different architectures: L(1) resulted in a discrete dimeric complex (1), while L(2) and L(3) gave respectively 1D (2) and 2D (3) coordinatio...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.

The stability analysis of islanded inverter-based microgrids (IBMGs) is increasingly an important and challenging topic due to the nonlinearity of IBMGs. In this paper, a new linear model for such microgrids as well as an iterative method to correct the linear model is proposed. Using the linear model makes it easy to analyze the eigenvalues and stability of IBMGs due to the fact that it derive...

The Randomized Response Technique (RRT) is a survey method especially developed to improve the accuracy of answers to questions on threatening topics. This paper reports the results of two meta-analyses on RRT studies, the first on the results of six individual validation studies, and the second on 31 comparative studies. The focus of these metaanalyses was on the performance of RRTs compared t...
