2 patients with endometrial cancer stage II and 2 patients with cervical cancer stage Ib1 underwent totally laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (TLRH) in 2004. The patients were placed in the lithotomic position. Laparoscopy was performed through the umbilicus and three ancillary ports were placed in the diamond shaped usual position. Only bipolar coagulation was used to control bleeding. No uter...

Urachal adenocarcinoma is a rare neoplasm of the bladder. Most of these tumors arise from urachal remnants in the dome of the bladder and extend into the umbilicus. These tumors can recur and most commonly metastasize to lymph nodes, retroperitoneum, lungs, liver and bone. Here we report a case of an urachal adenocarcinoma followed for seven years with lung metastasis for three years.

We describe the case of a neonate with an umbilical hernia and persistent wet umbilicus. Examination revealed a pulsatile umbilical cord with palpable thrill. Doppler ultrasound suspected umbilical arteriovenous malformation and contrast-enhanced computed tomography was performed leading to a definitive diagnosis. Surgery was successfully performed on day 27.

Colocutaneous fistula caused by diverticulitis is relatively uncommon with colo-umbilical fistulas being even rarer. We herein report a rare case of a spontaneous colo-umbilical fistula due to diverticulitis of the sigmoid colon. The fistula developed from a diverticulum of the sigmoid colon that discharged through the umbilicus after two episodes of acute diverticulitis. The condition was succ...

We report the prenatal sonographic diagnosis of hydrometrocolpos caused by an imperforate hymen in a Down syndrome fetus, with spontaneous evacuation on the third day of life. In this case, sonographic evaluation in the 37th week revealed a large retrovesical, sharply marginated, heterogeneous, unilocular cystic structure within the fetal abdomen extending to the left side of the umbilicus.

A simple and easy-to-perform technique of umbilical reconstruction after repair of a large umbilical hernia is described. Two opposing skin flaps, an upper inverted Omega shaped flap, and a lower, lazy M-shaped flap were designed to create a deep, 3-dimensional, normal-appearing umbilicus in identical twins.
