This is a first molecular report investigate the phylogenic analysis of Theileria spp. in sheep and it's infested ticks Mosul city-Iraq. A total 185 blood samples were collected from different areas city. sixty five Ixodid also parts infected animals. The overall prevalence was 52.4% (97 out 185), for ovis it 9.7%, lestoquardi 20% mixed infection 22.7% city, based on conventional-PCR multiplex-...
The Pacific coast tick, Dermacentor occidentalis Marx, is found throughout California and can harbor agents that cause human diseases such as anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, tularemia, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and rickettsiosis 364D. Previous studies have demonstrated that nonpathogenic endosymbiotic bacteria can interfere with Rickettsia co-infections in other tick species. We hypothesized tha...
Lyme Disease affects many people in the northeastern United States. One of the most important mechanisms that sustains the epidemic is the interaction between white-footed mice (Peromyscus leucopus) and deer ticks (Ixodes scapularis). When mice move around in their territory they carry diseased ticks to new locations. Our system simulates the different developmental stages of the tick through i...
The presence of granulocytic ehrlichiae was demonstrated by PCR in Ixodes ricinus ticks and wild small mammals in Switzerland in two areas of endemicity for bovine ehrlichiosis. Six ticks (three females and three nymphs) (1.4%) of 417 I. ricinus ticks collected by flagging vegetation contained ehrlichial DNA. A total of 201 small mammals from five species, wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus), yell...
Ethiopia has the largest livestock population in Africa, but the contribution for the economic aspect of the country is still lowest and disease can be considered as major constrain. Ticks are the most important ectoparasites of livestock in tropical and sub-tropical areas. Ethiopia is not exceptional and ticks are responsible for severe economic losses both through the direct effects of blood ...
Ticks harbor many pathogenic, as well as endosymbiotic and non-pathogenic agents. They are host of a variety of as yet unidentified microbes that continue to be described. In the present study, a Brucella-like bacterium was detected in a Boophilus tick by PCR amplification of a partial fragment of 16S rRNA locus followed sequencing. Our results show that the members of the genus Boophilus may a...
A total of 38 ticks were collected on black spiny-tailed iguana, Ctenosaura similis, in a secondary dry forest from northern lowlands Guanacaste, Costa Rica. At the time finding, animal has not mobility hind legs and tail. Ticks identified morphological molecularly as Amblyomma scutatum. PCR amplification tests to Rickettsia, Anaplasmataceae Borrelia negative. Possible caused lack is discussed.
During spring and autumn 2001, we screened 13,260 migrating birds at Ottenby Bird Observatory, Sweden, and found 3.4% were infested with ticks. Four birds, each a different passerine species, carried tickborne encephalitis virus (TBEV)-infected ticks (Ixodes ricinus). Migrating birds may play a role in the geographic dispersal of TBEV-infected ticks.
Adult Ixodes ricinus ticks were collected in Switzerland and tested for the presence of coinfection with Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and the human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE) agent by real-time PCR. Of 100 ticks, 49% were positive for B. burgdorferi and 2% were positive for the HGE agent. The two HGE agent-positive ticks were also found to be positive for B. burgdorferi.
We investigated migratory birds' role in spreading Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) through attached ticks. We detected CCHFV RNA in ticks on migratory birds in Turkey. Two isolates showed similarity with CCHFV genotype 4, suggesting a role for ticks in CCHFV epidemics in Turkey and spread of CCHFV by birds.
