During gastrulation and neurulation, foxj1 expression requires ATP4a-dependent Wnt/β-catenin signaling for ciliation of the gastrocoel roof plate (Walentek et al. Cell Rep. 1 (2012) 516-527.) and the mucociliary epidermis (Walentek et al. Dev. Biol. (2015)) of Xenopus laevis embryos. These data suggested that ATP4a and Wnt/β-catenin signaling regulate foxj1 throughout Xenopus development. Here ...

Considering cold, dense quark matter with two massless quark flavors, we demonstrate how, in a self-consistent calculation in the framework of QCD, the condensation of Cooper pairs induces a non-vanishing background color field. This background color field has precisely the right magnitude to cancel tadpole contributions and thus ensures overall color neutrality of the two-flavor color supercon...

We demonstrate that lattice QCD calculations can be made 103– 10 times faster by using very coarse lattices. To obtain accurate results, we replace the standard lattice actions by perturbativelyimproved actions with tadpole-improved correction terms that remove the leading errors due to the lattice. To illustrate the power of this approach, we calculate the static-quark potential, and the charm...

American toad (Bufo americanus) tadpoles were exposed to cadmium from shortly after hatching through metamorphosis. Cadmium at 540 microg/L decreased percentage survival and metamorphosis; 5 and 54 microg/L increased growth relative to controls. Amphibians exposed to cadmium as tadpoles may be less tolerant of natural stressors in the terrestrial environment.

The tadpole conjecture by Bena, Blaback, Grana and Lust effectively states that for string-theory compactifications with a large number of complex-structure moduli, not all these moduli can be stabilized fluxes. In this note we study in the regime using statistical data obtained Demirtas, Long, McAllister Stillman Kreuzer-Skarke list. We estimate lower bound on flux type IIB Calabi-Yau orientif...
