Universal quantifiers occur frequently in proof obligations produced by program verifiers, for instance, to axiomatize uninterpreted functions and statically express properties of arrays. SMT-based verifiers typically reason about them via E-matching, an SMT algorithm that requires syntactic matching patterns guide the quantifier instantiations. Devising good is challenging. In particular, over...
A morphological and syntactic wide coverage lexicon can be developed by using other existing resources and improved by using semi-automatic techniques which enables errors to be detected and fixed. We present here a Spanish lexicon developed using such an approach: the Leffe
We introduce an error mining technique for automatically detecting errors in resources that are used in parsing systems. We applied this technique on parsing results produced on several million words by two distinct parsing systems, which share the syntactic lexicon and the pre-parsing processing chain. We were thus able to identify missing and erroneous information in these resources.
Extracting semantic relationships between entities is challenging because of a paucity of annotated data and the errors induced by entity detection modules. We employ Maximum Entropy models to combine diverse lexical, syntactic and semantic features derived from the text. Our system obtained competitive results in the Automatic Content Extraction (ACE) evaluation. Here we present our general ap...
The present study investigated the effect of different types of text simplification (i.e., reducing the lexical and syntactic complexity of texts) on reading comprehension of English as a Foreign Language learners (EFL). Sixty female intermediate EFL learners from three intact classes in Tabarestan Language Institute in Tehran participated in the study. The intact classes were assigned to three...
This paper describes our WMT submissions CU-BOJAR and CU-DEPFIX, the latter dubbed “CHIMERA” because it combines on three diverse approaches: TectoMT, a system with transfer at the deep syntactic level of representation, factored phrase-based translation using Moses, and finally automatic rule-based correction of frequent grammatical and meaning errors. We do not use any off-the-shelf systemcom...
Building from the CHILDES dependency annotation scheme and on interlanguage POS annotation, we describe a syntactic annotation scheme developed for the data of second language learners. We encode subcategorization frames and underlying dependencies, in addition to the usual surface dependencies. The annotation scheme is relatively independent of language and can be mapped to learner errors.
We show here that veriication of Prolog programs can be systematically carried out within a simple framework which comprises syntactic analysis, declarative semantics, modes and types. We apply these techniques to study termination, partial correctness, occur-check freedom, absence of errors and absence of oundering. Finally, we discuss which aspects of these techniques can be automated. Notes.
Abstract Extracting semantic roles is one of the major steps in representing text meaning. It refers to finding the semantic relations between a predicate and syntactic constituents in a sentence. In this paper we present a semantic role labeling system for Persian, using memory-based learning model and standard features. Our proposed system implements a two-phase architecture to first identify...
The relative logical scope of multiple modifiers within NP is often semantically significant. This paper proposes a structurally based method for computing the relative scope of such modifiers, based on their order, type, and syntactic complexity. The algorithm is language-neutral, in that it works with minimal errors for a wide range of languages without language-specific stipulations.
