Purpose: The aim of this study is to observe the synergistic effect of two active compounds of secang, brazilin and brazilein, combined with cisplatin on WiDr colon cancer cells. Methods: Cytotoxic activities of brazilin (Bi) and brazilein (Be) in single and in combination with cisplatin (Cisp) were examined by MTT assay. Synergistic effect was analyzed by combination index (CI) parameter. Apop...

OBJECTIVE Acinetobacter baumannii species cause nosocomial infections and can subsequently develop multidrug resistance (MDR). The objective of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of A. baumannii to a novel combination of colistin and tigecycline, which may provide a faster and more efficacious treatment via a synergistic effect. METHODS We included 50 MDR A. baumannii samples that ...

Farnesyl transferase (FT) inhibitors (FTI) are anticancer agents developed to target oncogenic Ras proteins by inhibiting Ras farnesylation. FTIs potently synergize with paclitaxel and other microtubule-stabilizing drugs; however, the mechanistic basis underlying this synergistic interaction remains elusive. Here we show that the FTI lonafarnib affects the microtubule cytoskeleton resulting in ...

Preclinical studies support the therapeutic potential of histone deacetylases inhibitors (HDACi) in combination with taxanes. The efficacy of combination has been mainly ascribed to a cooperative effect on microtubule stabilization following tubulin acetylation. In the present study we investigated the effect of paclitaxel in combination with two novel HDACi, ST2782 or ST3595, able to induce p5...

Bradykinin B1 receptors (B1R) are rapidly induced after tissue trauma and are thought to be involved in maintaining the inflammatory response. Little is known about the intracellular signaling pathways mediating B1R induction in response to stress and inflammation. Here, we show that up-regulation of B1R by B1R agonist and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) occur through distinct but synergistic path...

Drug combinations may exhibit synergistic or antagonistic effects. Rational design of synergistic drug combinations remains a challenge despite active experimental and computational efforts. Because drugs manifest their action via their targets, the effects of drug combinations should depend on the interaction of their targets in a network manner. We therefore modeled the effects of drug combin...

Background and Objectives The antimicrobial combination with synergistic mechanism is recommended to provide broad-spectrum coverage, and prevent the emergence of resistant mutants. In the present study, the synergistic activity of lysostaphin with linezolid, oxacillin and vancomycin, against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clinical isolates was determined. Materials and Me...

Recombinant rat stem cell factor (rrSCF) and recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) coinjected for 1 week in rats cause a synergistic increase in mature marrow neutrophils accompanied by a striking decrease in erythroid and lymphoid marrow elements. The spleens of the same rats show increased granulopoiesis as well as increased erythropoiesis as compared with the spleen...

The MICs and fractional inhibitory concentrations of posaconazole (POS) and voriconazole (VRZ), alone and in combination with amphotericin B (AMB), for the conidia and hyphae of 100 Aspergillus isolates were evaluated. POS-AMB had more synergistic activity against hyphae (75% of isolates) than VRZ-AMB (37%) and significantly more synergistic activity against hyphae than against conidia (12%).
