A multi-period model of interruptible electric power service that includes early notification may be described as a stochastic control problem: whom to notify when. When customer interruption losses are multiplicative or submodular, an optimal priority ordering exists, allowing for a simple notification policy.
The q-fermion numbers emerging from the q-fermion oscillator algebra are used to reproduce the q-fermionic Stirling and Bell numbers. New recurrence relations for the expansion coefficients in the 'anti-normal ordering' of the q-fermion operators are derived. The roles of the q-fermion numbers in q-stochastic point processes and the Bargmann space representation for q-fermion operators are expl...
For a sequence of random variables (X1, X2, . . . , Xn), n ≥ 1, that are independent and identically distributed with a regularly varying tail with index −α, α ≥ 0, we show that the contribution of the maximum term Mn , max(X1, . . . , Xn) in the sum Sn , X1 + · · · + Xn, as n → ∞, decreases monotonically with α in stochastic ordering sense.
In stochastic (dynamic) traffic assignment (DTA), route choice (RC) formulations with implicit set require less memory than their explicit counterparts. To compute turn probabilities, however, a topological ordering of the nodes is needed, which negatively impacts stability convergence and consistency equilibrium. This paper formulates general framework for RC module efficient DTA (ESDTA) witho...
In this paper, a new semantic model is proposed for characterizing the performance properties of stochastic concurrent systems, called Maximality-based Labeled Stochastic Transition System (MLSTS). A Stochastic Process Algebra, called S-LOTOS, is associated with these MLSTS models as a specification language to describe the stochastic temporal aspects of concurrent systems under the assumption ...
We investigate stochastic comparisons between exponential family distributions and their mixtures with respect to the usual stochastic order, the hazard rate order, the reversed hazard rate order, and the likelihood ratio order. A general theorem based on the notion of relative log-concavity is shown to unify various specific results for the Poisson, binomial, negative binomial, and gamma distr...
This paper surveys selected applications of the Lorenz curve and related stochastic orders in economics and econometrics, with a bias towards problems in statistical distribution theory. These include characterizations of income distributions in terms of families of inequality measures, Lorenz ordering of multiparameter distributions in terms of their parameters, probability inequalities for di...
