Spinal-induced hypotension remains the most common complication associated with spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. Recent evidence indicates that a 20-mL/kg bolus via pressurized infusion system administered at the time of subarachnoid block (SAB) (coload) may provide better prophylaxis than the traditional administration of a 20-mL/kg crystalloid infusion (preload) approximately 20 minut...
BACKGROUND Many methods for preventing hypotension during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery have been investigated, but no single technique has proven to be effective and reliable. This randomized study studied the efficacy of combining simultaneous rapid crystalloid infusion (cohydration) with a high-dose phenylephrine infusion. METHODS Nonlaboring patients scheduled to undergo electiv...
A case report of a 63-year-old female patient with a cervical spinal dural diverticulum and intracranial hypotension secondary to a symptomatic CSF leak after minor trauma. The patient responded well after the cervical approach epidural blood patch procedure.
A case of transient ischaemic attack lasting 6 h occurred after spinal anaesthesia with bupivacaine. The level of sensory block was satisfactory and there was no significant hypotension. We discuss the possible cause of this previously undescribed complication.
BACKGROUND After spinal anesthesia, patients undergoing cesarean section are more likely to develop hemodynamic changes. The baricity of local anesthetic has an important role on spinal blockade effects. The aim of this study was to compare the isobar and hyperbaric bupivacaine 0.5% plus fentanyl on maternal hemodynamics after spinal anesthesia for C/S. METHODS In this double-blind study, 84 ...
OBJECTIVE: to determine the more effective dose of intramuscular (IM) Phenylephrine in preventing hypotension due spinal anesthesia (SA) administered for cesarean section. METHODS: The study was conducted from January1, 2020 July 31, 2020, at Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar, Pakistan. Sixty participants American Society Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status 1 and 2, scheduled elective sect...
BACKGROUND Spinal anesthesia (SA) is a standard technique for cesarean section. Hypotension presents an incident of 80-85% after SA in pregnant women. OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of intermittent pneumatic compression of lower limbs on declining spinal anesthesia induced hypotension during cesarean section. METHODS This double-blind clinical prospective study was conducted on 76 non-la...
Background and Aim: One of the main objectives of anesthesia is “loss of ability to feel pain (analgesia) and there are different methods and drugs to acquire this. Spinal anesthesia with lidocaine 5% is a method of causing analgesia whose period is about 60 minutes. Since lengthier analgesia is required in some surgeries and using opiates is one of the methods to prolong anesthesia, in this re...
M anagement of patients with an acute cervical spinal cord injury in an intensive care unit or similar monitored setting is recommended. • Use of cardiac, hemodynamic, and respiratory monitoring devices to detect cardiovascular dysfunction and respiratory insufficiency in patients following acute spinal cord injury is recommended. • Correction of hypotension in spinal cord injury (systolic bloo...
